I know this is a marathon not a sprint but Bitty's been on insulin for a week & I don't understand why he's bouncing so much. angry(2)_cat Sometimes he gets really good numbers at +4 & +8 like he's on track with dosing but then PS #'s sometimes skyrocket. I know under 200 is best but over 400 really gets under my skin, makes me think I should up the dose. He's eating all Friskees Pate (I add water as well) & a few cans of Sophistcat Supreme, I make sure they're all under 8% carbs. He also gets the freeze dried treats now (which make him psycho, he LOVES). He has been putting the weight back on & getting back to himself so those are good signs but I'm just kinda confused on what to do with these #'s. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Your ss doesn't look that bad for the first week. It takes their systems some time to adjust to the insulin.

Good that he loves the freeze dried treats, Harley never took to them.

Maybe experiment with even lower carb foods under 4%. Every little bit helps.

Hang in there.

One of the things that might make you feel better is to see if the 5 Ps have improved: purring, preening, pooping, peeing and playing. If so, there are reasons for celebration.

Yes, it is frustrating when you see a nice number and then it shoots up. And I know you don't want to hear, "But it has just been a week". But it has. He didn't become diabetic in a week and he won't be "cured" in a week. He indeed seems to be bouncing. But there are a couple good cycles in there when he had very normal numbers. You might try a curve this weekend to see if you can figure out his lowest spot in the cycle. That will help you when you can only get one mid cycle number. It will also help us see how the insulin is working during the cycle.

Be aware of how he is acting and eating. If he is improving, celebrate that and yes, be patient.

welcome to PXI and so here I come!\
you can not base one week of numbers on anything@
Please know that this is a marathon not a sprint and that you need to
analize the numbers ....

you are doing wonderful
take time and smell the roses

Haven't visited in a while, HUG!

Bouncing is grrrr irritating! KT is BAD BAD about it. Bitty's body got used to that high sugar level so when it get's closer to 'normal' for NORMAL cats, Mr. Liver goes into panic mode and dumps sugar back in. That's the 'bounce' numbers. Until the body can clear them, we're stuck having them stare back at us. Mr. Liver likes to govern the grade/octane of gas that gets put in the car.... ;-)

You are doing a great job testing, giving lo carb food, and learning the dance. But when people say this is a marathon, not a sprint, we are talking about many weeks, months and even years. This is not something that you can easily control and there are many complicating factors. Congratulate yourself for keeping your cat alive and in reasonably good shape--- you have already accomplished a lot ( more than many people ever do). Expect many ups and downs and inexplicable changes and you will be more prepared for what is ahead. ( yes, and lots of frustration!) then you can appreciate what you are doing.
