Anyone have any suggestions on a cat that loves a food one day and won't touch it the next? Hardey is driving me CRAZY! On Friday, he gobbled up the FF kitten turkey flavor (I bought a can to try) and yesterday he ate an entire big can of Friskies Mariner's Catch (also something he hadn't had before). This morning, I tried both and he sniffed and walked away. He has been doing this with every flavor I try. He eats it, so I go buy more and then he won't touch it. I've tried adding cheese, dried tuna flakes, etc. He picks those out, drinks any of the juice, and leaves the rest. I want to strangle him! UGH!

Hardey goes in Thursday for a tooth cleaning/possible extraction. I don't know if his teeth hurt and this has something to do with it or not. HELP!

My cats do that all of the time. It is very frustratings.

It may be his teeth that are bothering him. Have you tried adding extra water to the food to make it soupy? This works better with pate flavors. Also, it is a litte more work, but if you can run the soup mixture through a food processor, it helps grind the food down more and may be easier for him to eat. You can also try warming it in the microwave for a few seconds to help make the food more smelly.

I added water and it worked for awhile, but now he doesn't like it that way. I tried heating it too. That helped if it was in the refrigerator beforehand - only worked a couple of times though. I squish the food down really well with a fork to get rid of any clumps. I'll try the food processor. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I have the same problem.....
mine won't eat the same flavor twice in a row so I always have at least 6 open cans in the fridge.

I mostly either sprinkle some of the fortiflora on top after I let her smell the open package and I do it right in front of her face so she can smell it as it goes on her food.
If I do it where she can't smell it.... she still won't eat it.
(makes me feel like the maitre'd opening a bottle of wine for approval)
the other thing is to crush freeze dried treats right in front of her face over the food dish where she can smell it. (especially turkey livers lately, sometimes salmon if it's a fishy
food) ( freeze dried chicken doesn't have as strong a smell as the other types)

Great minds think alike... I went to Petco and bought the freeze dried tuna shavings. OH MY! I let him have one, crumbled up a bunch in front of him and mixed it into his food. He went crazy... who knows if it will work next time though. He's such a stinker!

Try about 15-20 minutes of active play before feeding. It may trigger the "hunt - catch - kill- eat" behavior cycle. Get him chasing something he can catch - a rope or a toy, etc - not just the laser pointer unless you land it on something he can pummel. A pinch of catnip may wind him up a bit to do this.
