Hi Folks
My gray lady Dolly and I were here back in 2008.She is 13 years old and of course she is one of the most beautiful cats in the world! She was on Vetsulin but thanks to you folks and an all wet diet she was off the juice in about 6 months. I was back here a few months ago and I found the new site so confusing and all my info was gone and I can't seem to be able to use the sheets that I used to use in Google Docs. (and still can't), I gave up, and decided I would handle it on my own. But I need you.
Dolly's Diabetes returned in February 2011. She is also asthmatic and we were using an inhaler to get her the steroids she needed and it didn't affect her glucose levels but in late 2010 we had to start giving her oral prednisone because the inhaler wasn't enough. That ended the honeymoon.
The vet told me they no longer prescribed Vetsulin and they put her on ProZinc. Okay...
I started testing her and shooting, everything was going well but then in April my other half Bruce quit his job due to Kidney Disease. I am now sole support for both of us and 15 cats. I had to cut the wet food diet back and they only get 1 wet feeding a day now since it was costing approx. $300.00+ a month to feed them. I am mixing Purina Cat Chow and the highest protein dry I can find which is either Pro Plan or Blue Buffalo Wilderness. I KNOW she needs an all wet diet but I just can't afford it.
I got another job so I'm working 7 days a week which has cut into my ability to do a curve and I have to admit I slacked off on testing her and just started shooting blind. Dolly was acting lethargic and was losing weight and when I did test her she was high, like the upper 300's so I upped her insulin to 3 units twice a day. In the meantime we had hurricane Irene which we are still recovering from, my beautiful tabby Rocky was killed by a Fisher (a very nasty weasel)and I obsessed over that until I caught and killed the SOB.
All the while Dolly was losing weight and sleeping. She got a bad upper respiritory infection and i took her to the vet. He put her on something which even though she threw up alot seems to have worked. He asked me what her "numbers" were. I felt like such a jerk... I couldn't tell him because I hadn't been testing and back when she first had it I was all over the veterinary hospital about their lack of knowledge about diabetes and made such a stink that they actually put a link to the FDMB on their web site.
So... to make a long story even longer I have been testing religiously and I am amazed I didn't kill her.
I just can't take losing another one of my babies right now and I feel terrible that I have been so messed up with everything else that I slacked when it came to her diabetes.
Her numbers are all over the place and I'm sure her diet is alot of that. I can seperate her from the other cats to feed her wet twice a day but I can't keep her away from their dry food. I am also shooting all over the place because I panic when her numbers go high. I must admit though she is much perkier and more active even though I am being erratic with her insulin.
Okay like I mentioned I can't seem to use the Google Doc's spreadsheet I used to use so I will give her numbers here...

As I mentioned, she is on ProZinc and i am using a U40 syringe. I just don't know how much insulin I should be using.
I used to figure around 160 was my cut off point for giving her insulin but I was home when she peaked so I could test her and keep an eye on her, now I am not here at the time she should peak so I have moved her cut off point to 190-200.
