Frustrated...can I up his dose myself?

im so frustrated with Tigger's lack of progress. I don't have a spreadsheet up yet because we were gone for 6 weeks and only home a few days ago..trying to catch up, so bear with me:). I talked to his new vet (same office..different vet...how can their views be so different??) anyway, she wants me to test him 3xDay for a week then report to her. She will then decide whether to up his dose from 2 units of Vetsulin to 2 1/2. I want to do it NOW. I don't want to wait 3 more days. I had high hopes on Friday and Saturday when I got a 217 and 204 in the a.m. Now im getting 306,392,443, and just got a 399 before his dinner!! He's really had no improvement that I can see since he started on Vetsulin back on April 16. This vet even said that Lantus has a higher remission rate! But she first wants to up his dose of Vetsulin. I guess she thinks she's saving us $$?? Ok...I don't report these numbers for a few days. Can I just up his dose to 2 1/2 units myself? NOW?? Is that safe? I'm assuming that's what she's going to do anyway in 3 days. Then she wants to wait 2 weeks to see about some urine testing. I'm just so frustrated. Help!
 
Have you read our Vetsulin/Caninsulin Guide? Dose adjustments are made based on the nadir/lowest glucose, with only some consideration of pre-shot tests.
Generally, if nadir/lowest glucose is above 300 mg/dL, a 0.25 unit increase (eyeballed) is likely to be safe. If you can be home to monitor, a 0.5 unit increase may work.
 
After his pre-dinner test of 399, he was 303 @ +2, and 277 @ +4 1/2. I'd love to be up at midnight and see what he is at +6, but I need to sleep and he needs me to quit hurting his ears!
 
His ears barely feel it....just like ours barely feel it....pinch yourself on the ear lobe. I'm new at this and my furbaby is in the hospital as we speak (waiting on a call), with pancreatitis. My home testing helped me decide it was time to take him in. He was vomiting and had diarrhea and wouldn't eat, so I couldn't give insulin and testing showed me his BS was way too high...so the cumulative symptoms alerted me to get him to the vet. For their sake, it's important to test at least once in a while, in the wee hours, because #1 that's when they tend to drop real low and as we say here...hyper (too high) for a while is not typically as bad as hypo (too low) for minutes! Again, I'm new...and I've talked with you before, Carol, so I hope an experienced person will jump in here.....but my point is ....we gotta test our babies.
Someone here told me this : this is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Remission may not happen with some of our babies. Some of them may need to take insulin their whole life. We just need to regulate them, which is my challenge, with Fred.
