Hi all,
Looking for any suggestions.
I feed canned pumpkin with each meal. In an effort to reduce waste, every time I open a new can I split it into thirds. I have little plastic containers that hold 1/3 of a can perfectly. So I fill two of those and freeze them. Then I use the last 1/3 for a week and all is good.
So then 1 day before I toss what's left in the can, I pull one of the frozen containers out to thaw in the fridge. Then I start using that instead. But then in 24-36 hours Shenandoah starts getting huge stool and Foxy starts coughing up hairballs. I end up tossing the previously-frozen pumpkin and opening a new can, and these symptoms go away.
This has recurred enough times now that I'm pretty confident the frozen/thawed pumpkin is causing the problem.
Is there any special trick to freezing the pumpkin? Or does anyone have any other suggestions for reducing the waste? I can only get through < 1/3 can before it goes bad if I just leave it in the fridge.
