Frozen insulin

Okay no more, I am trying to figure out when you can give insulin again when it arrives. Still no ondansetron script?

I called the vet back. He’s gonna give me something for Nausea and pain that he gives to cats that my have something going on with the pancreas. Picking it up in 20.
Ughh. He is nauseous and needs anti-nausea, NOT antibiotics. Nausea can't be treated with antibiotics. Can you call around and ask if someone will write you a script? Pretty please? Or ask your friends if anyone has some ondansetron/zofran lying around.

Yes, good! Ask him if he's dehydrated. And bring up that pancreatitis test again. Let's nip it when it's small.

How long has Buttons not been feeling well/not eating again?

Just checked him again. 555. Either he no longe process the insulin or it’s bad. I got some Vetsulin form a friend. Should I give him that tonight? My vet said if my new insulin didn’t come. I should give him 21/2 units of The old prozinc.

I can't help you but I've seen you were asked to set up your signature and a spreadsheet, without these there is no way members can give advice. It's too hard to go back and read all the previous posts, just looking out for your kitty.
Did you go and buy ketostix yet

I would give the Vetsulin tonight, 1.5u. Since you gave bad Prozinc a few hours ago though I'm unsure if it should be less... @Sienne and Gabby (GA) @Wendy&Neko @Critter Mom @Deb & Wink any insight on giving Vetsulin 6 hours after old Prozinc? He's nauseous and has had high numbers for a few days, no ketones.

I did ping @Bandit's Mom about helping him with Buttons spreadsheet, maybe she didn't get the tag.

  • It would be helpful if you can set up your signature
  • On the left, under Settings, Click on Signature. This is where you will put information that helps us give you feedback.
    • There is a limit of two lines which may include two links; you may separate pieces with commas, dashes, | etc. This is where you paste the link for your spreadsheet, once it is set up.
    • Add any other text, such as
    • Caregiver & kitty's name (optional)
    • DX: Date
    • Name of Insulin
    • Name of your meter
    • Diet: "LC wet" or "dry food" or "combo"
    • Dosing: TR or SLGS or Custom (if applicable)
    • DKA or other recent health issue (if applicable)
    • Acro, IAA, or Cushings (if applicable)
    • Spreadsheet link. Please put the signature link on the bottom line of your signature information, on its own, so it is easy to find.
    • Please do not put any information about your location in the signature for security reasons. If you wish to add your country location, please add it to your profile.
Be sure to click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom. If you need help urgently it is important we know these things at a glance. We don’t want to waste valuable time finding out information.

tap on your avatar where it says your name ,then hit profile page ,tap on that ,then go up to the very top, upper right hand side and tap on your name ,it will bring down a drop box, tap on signature, the signature will be under settings, tap on the signature then and you can start to add what I posted above, make sure you hit save ,
Welcome to the best place you could ever be and an awesome group of people

Hi Elizabeth,

I've only seen this now. Sorry for not replying earlier.

I know nothing about Prozinc. Even if I did, I would not advocate giving Vetsulin mid-cycle on top of another insulin.

I'm really sorry I can't help more.

no ketones.
I saw that James has got the ketone strips but I didn't see a test result. Did I miss it?

Hi James,

How long is it since Button had a bowel motion? Is there any chance he might be constipated?

Also, are there any other vets in your locality?

James,

I recommend you do your best to get a ketone test as a matter of urgency.

Tips for Collecting Urine Samples

If you have any cling wrap, I suggest putting a few layers of it over the litter in Button's litter box. Once it's in place, push down a little to make a sort of well to collect the urine. If Button has a 'favourite spot' in the box that's a good place to make the well.

Also see next post.

Do you think Buttons has to wait until tomorrow for Vetsulin? He had a dose at 9am today and again at 1:47pm on vet's orders. I don't even know if old/bad insulin is effective or what.

Still no sweet breathe either.
By the time you can smell the sweet smell (or sometimes described as smelling like nail polish remover, acetone smell) on the cat's breath, your cat is already in DKA.

I wish I knew how much for what numbers with prozinc. Like 500s how much. 400s how much. And so fourth.
No such dosing like you are looking for exists on this message board. We do not do sliding scale dosing based on the pre-shot test.
I tested 1hourblater. Went from 513 to 467
That difference is simply the 15-20% meter variance that is allowed with hand held glucometers. Those numbers are considered to be the same, taking that meter variance into account.
@Panic
@Deb & Wink
can answer you question better than I. cant give dosing advice:(
Without a spreadsheet and with someone trying to use 2 different insulins on their cat, giving 2 doses of insulin already today only a few hours apart, not ketone testing, there is nothing more I can help with.

We have less information to go on than your vet. We just can't do what you want James, advising you on shooting vetsulin when you already gave your cat 2 doses of who knows what insulin already in less than 6 hours. What you are asking is impossible to answer.

Please contact your vet again for his/her recommendations.
