Guess he needs to be back on Lantus. Advice as to how much to restart him on? I've been recording his spot checks on his spreadsheet - guess we should have checked more often.
Ruth Ann, he's been OTJ for a few months now. Before you restart insulin, check him again later. Remember lots of things can temporarily raise BG's. Upset stomach, infection, UTI, bad teeth, etc. can all cause higher numbers. How does he seem to be feeling?
He was eating "like a little pig" yesterday. We were glad to see it as he's been generally eating poorly and we've had him on off and on Cyproheptadine (appetite stimulant) to help him gain back some weight. Had 1/2 tab Cypro yesterday, so far none today, and so far he hasn't eaten. We'll check him later today, whether or not he eats well, and see what we get for BG.
I'd probably get him to the vet for a good look over. Though those numbers are watch-closer kind of numbers, I don't think they are necessarily start insulin now numbers. Great job on being on top of things and catching a rise early!
am + 5 1/2, got him to eat a very small amount of Trader Joe's tuna, usually a favorite. am+6, he's back up to 131 (on a really small amount of food). BTW, he's only been OTJ since 8/9 (plus a two-week trial), so not really very long.
I would get his teeth looked at. Bad teeth are a common reason kitties fall out of remission, and if he's not wanting to eat, maybe it hurts. Healing vines for Frodo - nice to see you for a visit, but let's keep it that way.
If you do decide he needs to go back on the juice, I would post in the Lantus/Levemir forum for advice.
Made an appt at vet's, but not until Thursday. He just ate a little more tuna. I just gave him 1/4 cypro, but that won't hit for an hour or so. He's been getting 1/2 tab most days, but I try every so often to see if he can do without. Usually not. But yesterday was unusual in the amount he ate - that's one reason I made sure to do a BG this morning, thinking that he might be back to "diabetic hunger".
Just checked him again at pm + 1/2: down to 71. But he hasn't eaten a whole lot today, which might account for lower BG. But what happened this morning: he maybe ate too much yesterday but I wouldn't expect that to bump up his BG for that long? Or could it? He didn't anything yesterday or today that would be in the hi-carb category. Fancy Feast Classics and some raw ground chicken, and Trader Joe's Tuna today.
Anyway, we'll check his BG the next few mornings just in case. And will have him checked by the vet on Thursday - due for another checkup anyway.
