Friskies Special Diet food

Does anyone know if there has been a change in Friskies Special Diet food in the past couple of months?

The reason I ask is that around the beginning or middle of January, Motska decided that she didn't want to eat her Friskies Special Diet Turkey & Giblets. She has NEVER been a picky eater -- and she really loved the Turkey & Giblets more than any other flavor, so naturally I thought she might be getting sick (she's almost 17 years old). It took a few days before I thought to try some different flavors. She's not really interested in the S.D. Beef & Chicken -- she's only mildly interested in the S.D. Beef & Liver flavor. And she seems to be losing interest in that as well. She's more than willing to scarf down other things that don't make for a balanced diet -- freeze-dried chicken treats or "chicken dust" on top of her food, canned tuna (I was getting desperate and wanted to avoid Hepatic Lipidosis).... It looks like I might have some success with Chicken & Gravy -- it's higher in carbs, but at least she'll be getting enough calories in her (while keeping with low phosphorous) -- we can deal with a slightly higher dose of insulin if we need to.

She had her annual check-up a couple of weeks ago, and everything looked good -- nothing unexpected. In fact, her BUN was normal even though her creatinine was high. (I may have that backward?) No UTI, nothing....

So I don't think it's true inappentance, but I can't figure out what's going on with her appetite -- she's always eaten anything that I put in front of her! Just thought I'd ask....

Maybe I should clarify a litle -- she's more than happy to eat high-carb canned -- I'm just trying to find something that she's willing to eat AND had low carb & low phosphorous AND fits into my tight budget....

Have you tried the low phosphorus/low carb Wellness and EVO foods? If you get them in the big 13oz cans, they're not that much more expensive than the friskies, especially when you take into account that you'll feed less because of the higher caloric content.

We've never tried EVO -- and she used to eat Wellness (can't remember if it was chicken or turkey). So we'll have to give them both a try! We'll finish out the flat of S.D. Chicken in gravy that I have & then give the other two a try and see what (if anything) she likes. If she doesn't like the new stuff, that will have to be okay, as long as she eats something.

I haven't been giving her insulin because her BG has been so low (in the low 100's) -- probably due to the fact that she wasn't eating much. I doubt that her pancreas has suddenly healed itself -- she really does need insulin. But I also don't want her to hypo while I'm at work or asleep. So we'll work on the appetite first, and adjust her insulin dose as needed.

Julia -- thank you for the suggestion, I'll definitely give them a try!

I don't have any input - Charley seems to like the Friskies special diet. I wanted to say hi. I see that you are in Orlando. I'm in Deland, Volusia co.
