Can't figure out how to delete this so please bear with me. I am redoing the spreadsheet to change it from the carbs in the wet matter to the carbs in the dry matter. Update coming.

Is it just me, or is something off?
I wondered about that too and I checked the formula several times. I looked at another site with a formula to find out carbs and this is what it said - the answer you get from the first formula, the one I used, gives you the carbs in the wet matter. We want the carbs in the dry matter so there is another calculation I will have to do. I'm going to take it down and redo it. Thanks for the input.

Okay, see if this makes more sense. This is the formula that I used to get the carbs for the dry matter in the canned food, I found it online on a cat nutrition site -

1. add together the percentages for (protein + fat + fiber + moisture + ash)
2. subtract this total from 100
3. multiply the answer by 100
4. divide this total by (100 - moisture%)

The answer you get is the carbs in the dry matter of the canned food. Of course, it won't be exact because they are giving minimum and maximum values instead of exact ones but it will give us a good idea. It will work for any canned food.

Here is an example:

Friskies Indoor Pate Chicken Dinner
Crude Protein 7% , Crude Fat 3%, Crude Fiber 2.4%, Moisture 78%, Ash 3.3%

1. (7 + 3 + 2.4 + 78 + 3.3) = 93.7
2. 100 - 93.7 = 6.3
3. 6.3 X 100 = 630
4. 630/(100 - 78) = 630/22 =
28.6
So the approximate % of carbs in the dry matter of this canned food is 28.6% and we know this would not be a good choice for our sugar babies.

I hope this makes sense. If you find any problems with the spreadsheet please let me know.

I have not checked your math, but there is a formula (#4) in a sticky note on the info board. Not sure if you've seen it?

On your current spreadsheet, there are Friskies pate varieties where the carb count does not match what's on Dr. Lisa's chart. I feed my cat several of these as LC meals: Mixed Grill, Poultry Platter, Turkey and Giblets, all <10% carbs according to hers.

I have seen others rename their post to "Please Delete" or something like that to get moderator/admin attention.

I wonder if it may be a change in the recipes. The chart I saw of Dr. Lisa's was from 2017. Is there a more recent one? I got the nutritional values right off the Purina website since I didn't get a real answer back from my email to them.
I tried the carb calculator and the calorie count was significantly different from what was on the Purina site. It is quite a bit higher now so I wouldn't be surprised if they have changed their recipes. It would be so much simpler if the companies would just tell us wouldn't it? This is so frustrating!
