Having started on the TR regime for Freya 3.5 days ago, her BG was getting much better - until this morning when she went borderline hypo so her BG has been high again all day. As a result, we’re going to cautiously reduce her Lantus by a further 0.25 units for the next 3 days (meaning she’s now on 1.25 units BiD) & then we’ll reassess whether she needs a further reduction.
Freya is obviously feeling much better, although she’s still drinking more than I’d like - she actually played, just briefly, earlier tonight!
My next mission is to try to find out whether ANY crunchy treats are LC enough for a diabetic cat as these are her faves & she’s now begging…!

I’m glad you reduced the dose. She probably dropped lower during the night. And she is bouncing now. Make sure you get a few more tests in tonight as she has already dropped at +1.
I think from tomorrow you can start posting over on the Lantus page where you will get a lot more eyes on you.

Here is a link to information about posting on the Lantus page called THE BASICS. NEW TO THE GROUP
I’ll tag @tiffmaxee as she is over on that page and she can watch out for you.

Unlikely we’ll get any more tests done tonight as us humans need some sleep too! I’m hoping that tonight’s (slightly) reduced dose will mean Freya won’t go quite as low tomorrow morning, but this is the start of the next 3-day TR cycle for us to try.
Thank you for the link & the tag! Does this mean I can no longer post here or has Freya just been upgraded?

there are some low carb fiber treats made by Stewart /fiber formula fish flavor (low calorie and sodium)
I gave these to Drevon and he didn't spike

If you are following TR, you don't reduce the dose unless the numbers are below 50. Unless you see the actual numbers, you don't reduce the dose. I would suggest you consider your shot times. Is it possible for you to adjust to an earlier time? It's unlikely that you will have a sense of whether Freya's numbers are dropping lower at night if you're not getting any tests later than +1 or +2. You may be missing dose reductions during the PM cycle.

I daren’t change the shot times ‘yet’ as this is the only regime that works for Freya, her ears & my husband being away from home 4 days a week. Having said that, I’ve woken every 2hrs to give a kidney cat fluids before, so I’m guessing I won’t be getting much sleep tomorrow night!

Thank you for the suggestion - I’ve been struggling to understand why Freya’s insulin just doesn’t seem to be working but this could explain everything! Just her poor little ears…

With ear trauma in mind, I’m pursuing a test every 3hrs (Freya is very NOT happy with me)! Will this be enough for just 1 night as an indication or do you need me to traumatise her still further? She was so compliant iro the BG tests, now she’s struggling, it’s taking me multiple pokes for enough blood (bear in mind that I’m blind)…? I’m now worried that by testing her so often just to prove that her BG is too high, she’ll not allow me to test her often enough if/when you guys decide that her insulin needs to be adjusted…? Don’t get me wrong - I’ll do whatever is necessary to help my Freya, but I’m aware that trauma cannot be ignored so I need to get Freya’s control sorted sooner rather then than later!

An ointment… ? Tell me more!
I use a dab of Vaseline when I test after warming his ear. I test alot & he's really good about it. It's not traumatizing once you get the hang of it & her ears learn to bleed it gets much easier. If you are stressed or upset when testing kitty's are real good at picking up on it & will be stressed or upset as well. Try talking to her calmly & tell her it's okay mommy loves you we gotta test so we can get a treat. Eventually she will coming running when it's test time. For sore ears I used pure coconut oil, just make sure that's the only ingredient in it. I buy it at Walmart, his ears don't get sore anymore but they did for a couple of months. Your doing great, just keep trying.
