Freestyle device that came with my original meter back in 2006
mostly around 30 gauge if i remember correctly. haven't looked at a box of them closely in years

We freehand. With the lancet device, I felt like I couldn't see what I was doing, plus Bailey hated the clicking noise.

My favorite are the Accu Chek Softclix, they are 28 gauge. We are using some ReliOn 26 gauge right now that DH bought because they were cheaper, and I hate them :lol:
 
Lancing device...either the Relion Pen with 30 guage lancets or the AccuChek Multiclix. Tried free-handding and I was terrible at it....Zoe doesn't even notice the click with either lancing device.
 
I do it by hand. I need to see where I am putting the needle. Tried with the lancing device several times, couldn't do it, got irritated with the machine and just did it by hand. Been doing it that way ever since. :)
 
we use the lancing device that came with our ipet. It's really easy to use and the cheap 28 gauge lancets that are walgreens brand fit it perfectly.
We tried free hand but we found she struggled more and it took longer. Device was quick and easy so we can do it before she gets too squirmy.
 
I do it by hand. I tried the pen that came with my meter but never could get it to work. I like to see exactly where the needle is going anyway, and I feel like doing it by hand gives me more control over that. I get everything ready to go before I try to grab the cat and can do it very quickly. I use 30 gauge lancets, the generic ones from Target or walmart.
 
Soft Touch lancing device that is no longer available. BD Ultra Fine II lancets that fit inside it. You just need to position in right on the edge of the ear.....you don't need to SEE where the needle is going......it will go as long as there is some ear underneath it.
 
I freehand. I find I have much greater control than with the lancing device. The device also felt really uncomfortable in my hand. I use 30 gauge BD ultrafine lancets.
 
I prefer the lancing pen. However, I have tried many pens and the only one that I found that works were the ones that came with my One Touch meters. I have five of those, one for each of my cats. Over a half dozen ones did not really work.
 
I free hand. Less to fuss with. Less coordination required (for me, anyway!)
 
I use the Relion Lancing device with the 30g Relion Lancets and really like them. I have to be extra careful when aiming it as it is more difficult to see exactly where the lancet is poking than with doing it freehand.

I think a lot of it is psychological for me....the thought of doing freehand means it's "me" poking her directly, but when I use the lancet pen I feel more like it's the "lancet pen" poking her and not me! Psychologically puts something between me and the poke. Silly but I've gotten pretty comfortable with it. The Relion device makes a pretty soft noise and it doesn't bother Turtle...then again, she's losing her hearing so that doesn't surprise me.
 
We use the lancing device. Its been a blessing to us. We also try and get the 25 gauge lancets. But they are so hard to find.

We dont do ear, only foot pads.
