Jayme....I think it's very possible that 2 units is too much. We do our increases in .25 unit increments because even that tiny amount difference can make a huge difference in our kitties numbers.
We wouldn't ever increase from 1 unit to 2 units....instead, if the numbers indicated an increase was needed, we'd go to 1.25, then 1.5, then 1.75....when you increase in whole units, you can go past what could be the "best dose" for Fred.
It would help a lot if you'd start keeping track of your test results on our spreadsheet. The spreadsheet we use here is a very valuable tool in spotting the patterns we look for in Lantus dosing. Here's some
Instructions on Starting our spreadsheet. Let us know if you have problems with it!
Fred is still very new to the sugardance, so has a good chance of possibly going into remission. Please let us help you learn how best to dose with Lantus. It's not that your vet is necessarily a "bad" vet...it's just that no vet can keep up with the latest treatments for every type of disease in every type of animal they see. If they tried, they'd never have any time to see real patients! The people here do nothing but deal with feline diabetes and the diseases that tend to come with it, so have many years of experience with it to share with you.
