Hi Folks,

We're just starting Squeaky on Budesonide this week, once a day in the evening. So far he's had 3 pills.

Except.... looks like I missed his mouth -- last night? Found one on the floor this morning.

If I call the vet to ask, it'll take 2 days for them to get back to me.

What do you think, should I give him that pill this morning, then pill as usual tonight?

Thanks,
Jan

Hi Jan,

Is there a prescribing information leaflet in with the meds? If yes, then usually they give guidance on what to do if you miss a dose.

With humans I think the general guide when a dose is missed is to regard it as a skipped dose and to resume treatment when the next dose is due, but the best I can suggest to you is to ring your vet for advice. I'm sorry to hear that their turnaround time at the moment tends to be slow, but maybe they might surprise you this time? It's a question that should be quick for them to answer.

Thanks no leaflet. I will try.

Glad the vet responded quickly. I ended up getting the budesonide compounded as a liquid. Easier to make sure it went in the cat, plus easier to do smaller doses when we tapered down a bit.
Finding pills... A black light works better than one might think. ;)

Thanks Wendy!!!! It was nice for the vet to respond quickly. Did you squirt the liquid into Neko's mouth? My Squeaky wouldn't tolerate that.

I have a new pilling secret weapon. I take a chunk of meat and slice a slit in the middle, insert the pill, then roll the meat in some dehydrated chicken crumbs. He gobbles it.

Sorry I should have said if you suspect kitty spit the pill out, you can scan the floor with a black light and you can find, if indeed its a spit out. I sent one to a friend who had to pill her cat and she found a lot of spit out pills with it.:p
