Hershey is giving us a fit, not wanting to eat. He was eating like normal until we were gone so much with Sammy's birth. Jessica said he stopped eating because he missed me. He's never been one to like his world tipped, so I figured he'd settle back in. It's been a week. The last day or so, I've been sprinkling turkey treat dust on his food to entice him. He eats just where the dust is (maybe another bite or two) then looks to me for more dust. grr_red

I decided to try fortiflora, but am unsure what I'm looking for. When I looked online, it came up dog/cat and has maltodextrin in it. I read that maltodextrin may not be suitable for diabetics. Seemed too expensive to buy the wrong thing and sure didn't want to mess up his BG! Hoping y'all can shed a little light. THANKS!!

Have a great night -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

This what we have...

http://www.amazon.com/Purina-FortiF...ll pop a couple packets in the mail tomorrow.

Leo loves it. He doesn't have an appetite problem, but needs it for digestive issues. Although sometimes he will get particular and just eat the top layer off like you mentioned with the dust. My civvie is going to get it because she has appetite problems but I can't comment how it works for that. Several folks have mentioned that sprinkling it on food helps. Good luck!

It was a total miracle for us in getting Zener to eat. Using fortiflora was what finally got him to cave and eat wet food. The flavor is like that of kibble, so some cats love it! It is also useful for pudding poo and/or diarrhea. We buy ours from either Amazon or Entirely Pets and it does not affect his BGs. He has regular appy issues and we often have to use cyprohexadine as an appetite stimulant. We got this as a prescription from our vet and only give a tiny bit, not nearly what is prescribed.

GLAD I asked y'all, because that's not what I was looking at. I was trying to find something I could buy while out and about yesterday and knew I'd be near Pet Smart and Petco, so started there. This is what I found - http://www.petco.com/product/112058...-And-Cat-Supplement.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch and it has: "Maltodextrins, Calcium Carbonate, Aspergillus oryzae var., Aspergillus niger var., Trichoderma Longibrachiatum, Ananas Comosus, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Natural Flavoring, Ginger, and Stevia." (Stevia is a sweetener, not sure what it does to BG.)

Sure hope he just snaps out of this not eating funk...it's so unlike him...in the meantime, thanks for giving me something else to try!

Thanks, again -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Until your Forti gets there, have you tried a sprinkle of parmesan cheese? Midie, our finicky eater, loves it.

Hope the Hershey got his appy back soon.
Libby, dont over look. Can it be other underlying cause? Can it be a dental issue, hairball?

Amy - I haven't tried Parmesan cheese; I'll see if we have any.

Helen - I have no idea if it's something else. It wasn't happening when we left for the hospital Monday night (9/24) and started for Doug while I was mostly gone through that Thursday. If I sprinkle more treat dust in one area, he'll eat all of that food down to the bowl. So, I wouldn't think it's dental, but I'll see if I can see anything that looks different.

I'm pretty sure he'd eat Oreo's Friskies Pate', but that's what I use to raise his BG so I'd rather not. :YMSIGH:

(About my picking eating) My grandma used to say, "Lawd, chile. (long I) You gone be hawngry enough to eat anythang!" We'll see...

I was worried about switching to Friskies SD because of the brewers rice. I've been checking Ru's BG and she's still holding steady. Last night, about 3 hours after eating, she rang in at 113 on the Alpha/84 on the Relion. I can't complain about that!

Sounds like you may have hit on something, Amy. Unfortunately, neither of mine will touch the Special Diet. :YMSIGH:

Thanks, Helen. I hope Hershey gets tired of this game soon!

How about some stinky freeze dried raw food to entice the appetite? My civies go nuts for Stella and Chewy's freeze dried raw cat food. The fish ones are really really stinky. You can buy the small pouch instead of the big bag and use a little for sprinkling on top of food.

Libby. When Tucker isn't eating, I add some tuna water on the canned and mix it together. I also do that when I thaw some frozen salad shrimp, then use the water mixed into the food. He loves it!
However, I think the FortiFlora is the best, kinda like us eating Activa Yogurt.
