Fortiflora carbs?

There was a discussion on the FB group about Fortiflora and I looked up the product link to give to them. So I decided to at the ingredients. It has brewer's yeast in it. So I used a carb calculator and it came up to 39% carbs! Now I would gather that is for the whole box of 30 wouldnt you think? So I wonder what would one packet be?

I just have never thought about it before until I looked at the nutrition and caloric content.

You know Donna, that makes sense. The last 2 times Heff's numbers have truly spiked back in to the 300's is when he's eaten some raw with FortiFlora on it--and it wasn't a whole packet, it was a sprinkling.

I remember reading that manufacturers use FortiFlora to spray on treats which is what makes them smell so appealing. I think the treats were Temptations, because it said if you don't have FortiFlora, you can crush up Temptations and it's a similar appeal.

Yes, indeed!

It is thought to be very beneficial to human diabetics. As I recall the benefit is connected to the chromium content of Brewer's Yeast, but it's not as simple as supplementing chromium itself, as there is something else in B.Y. that facilitates/augments the chromium. Early this year I started giving Bertie supplements of Brewer's Yeast because of this. I've never found any adverse effect on his blood glucose, and I currently test him, on average, about 8 times a day.

I also now supplement him with a small dose of curcumin (also thought to be beneficial to diabetics and for a zillion other reasons).

This past year's numbers have been the best ever (in nearly 7 years....)

Maybe Bertie has just been lucky. Or maybe there is something else in Fortiflora that raises BG....? (I've never used it, so don't know about it....)

Hi!

I give my Pudge (OTJ) FortiFlora daily & have not noticed any BG spikes. I simply don't like the price! Is there anything cheaper that can be given to cats? I use it for its supposed probiotic properties.

There is another probiotic for pets - Intelliflora (?) Which uses liver instead of animal digest for the flavoring. Check Amazon (button in upper right of page)

I've been wondering this myself. My Tink isn't taking the transition to canned food well.

If the main ingredient is brewers yeast, could I just use my own Nutritional Yeast (which I think is the same thing, isnt it?)?? It's got a great cheesy flavor, so seems like he might like it. Nutritional yeast is cheap to buy, so would be a good option if it works. I got mine online for around $6, but the bottle is pretty big and has already lasted me quite awhile.

Thoughts??
