An unregulated kitty is always hungry. If the diabetes caused weight loss let her eat as much as she wants. Several small meals a day are best or let her graze if that's her style. Just take all food away for the 2 hours prior to the pre shot BG test.
 
Magellan ate prior to control up to 4 cups of kibble or more per day, now he eats a can and a half of the friskies split into 4 feedings
 
My 15 pound cat eats 3-4 of the small fancy feast cans a day. The vet told me he could be eating more when he was on insulin but I was hesitant about giving him more.

If he's hungry, feed him. If he's satisfied than great.
 
Feed enough to maintain weight/get to desired weight.
My BunBun weighs about 15 lbs and gets 1/2 a 5.5 oz can twice daily. I f I feed more he gains weight. I maintain his BG under about 110 all day on two units of Levemir. He is always hungry
