After I've switched Roma from wet and dry Hill's M/D food,I give him 105 g of Granata Pet Veal and Rabbit pate twice a day.Which is 204kcal. His daily amount.An hour before his meal time he starts meowing non-stop.Then he finish his meal in 2 minets and wait for more.:(At this moment his weight is 3.200 kg,but his ideal weight is 4.500.Can I increase his food amount ?:bookworm:
 
Oksana, if Roma is underweight and the food you give him is very low carb and he is on insulin (depending on BG) I would definitely give more food. But it is better to give frequent smaller meals as big infrequent meals are difficult to digest and can rise BG too high. I would not worry about calories at this stage, you need to get Roma to put some weight on. I hope it helps.
PS. Uncontrolled diabetes makes cats to loose weight.

Are you able to feed Rocky few time a day personally or do you use Programmable LCD Auto Pet Feeder?

I feed Rocky 4 times in 24 hours at regular intervals and I use auto pet feeder for his midday and midnight meal. Sometimes I feed him more if we have a situation that his BG drops too low.
I have looked at Roma's SS and I can see that his BG is very high so it means he is very hungry, without enough insulin the cells in his body don't receive glucose and other nutrients, it means he is metabolically starving. Have you asked for guidance how to use Caninsulin on Caninsulin/Vetsulin forum? Have you read all information how to treat FD which is posted here? I'm sorry I'm asking these questions but I'm not sure how experienced you are and what is your story. i hope that it is OK with you.

My experience is 6 months and I'm still figuring out his proper dose .For long time I was believing in our vet,when suddenly realized that he is hopeless.Then thank to God I've founded this forum.
I've recently asked for help on forum and was advised to reduce the insulin dose.I use to give him 3U twice a day.Since then Romas's sugar seems a little slow down.
 
It really wasn't until my cat started gaining weight that his BG levels stabilized. I agree with Marlena that the focus should be helping Roma gain weight through small, frequent meals.
 
Marlena today is our first day on automatic feeder:). I've devided Roma's daily dose to four.Two bigger dose before shots in two smaller between that.Earlier he had meowed 1 hour before meal(I use to fed him at 6.15 and 18.15),from today on he has been meowing since 4 pm.:( More than that,he can feel the food in the feeder and has tried to opened.How were your first days on feeder ?Also nightmare?:nailbiting:
 
Luckily Rocky behaved nicely towards the feeder, I expected him to try to destroy it but he quickly realised that it will open at some point and he just waits patiently. so it works for us fine.
Oksana, have you assessed Roma's weight? Do you know when his BG is very low (nadir)? Rocky meows desperately for food when his BG is very low or too high.
 
Recently he has gained a little bit.His normal weight is 4500 kg,1 month ago he was 3.200 kg.at this moment he is 3200 kg. His nadir is at +3 in Morning and Evening.If I can say that,because his BG still high.
 
Ok, so he is hungry because his BG is high.
I can see that you have lowered his dose and he does not give you black so it is good.
Keep doing what you're doing - it is some progress.

Do you feed Rocky every 6 hours?
 
Yes Oksana, of course.
7AM and 7PM (actually anytime between 7 and 7.30) is the time which suits me to give Rocky his insulin and you need to feed at the same time and it makes 12 hour cycle. Mid cycle is six hours so 1 -2 PM and 1 -2 AM is time for another feed and also Rocky's usual nadir (when his BG can drop low) so it makes sense to provide food to stop BG dropping further especially at night. But saying that he had quite a few episodes when his BG dropped very low after 4 - 5 hours but I catch it as I test a lot.
