Hi,

Does anyone have experience getting their cat to gain weight? Ours only gained weight after her DKA when we fed dry Purina DM. I just can't seem to get her to eat much canned food, the dry is no problem but often she won't eat a whole 6 ounces wet a day. Right now the vet increased her dose from 2 to 3 units a day. When we went in she had lost a half pound since her last September check in.

Thanks,

Elizabeth

Higher fat foods will have more calories per ounce. Kitten foods may have slightly higher calories for growth.

Ex Wellness Turkey and Giblets has more calories per oz than Friskies Special Diet Turkey and Giblets.

I have to put a treat or a couple of dry pieces on top to get her to eat, and she will only take a bite here and there all day until it is gone. I picked up a can of the wellness core it said 220 calories for 5.5 ounces so hopefully it helps. The other was only 160.

Sounds like she is a grazer and prefers to nibble all day. That is good for keeping the glucose more level.

Tricks to stimulate appetite:
Warming food
Sprinkling with a bit of grated Parmesan
Sprinkling with FortiFlora
Engaging in active play 5-10 minutes, before feeding, to trigger hunt-catch-kill-eat behavior
