Does anybody know anything about Daves cat food? It's 95% premium meat. No grain, corn, cereals, gluten or wheat. The lady at pet shop said it would be perfect for a diabetic cAt. She is going to get me a breakdown from company to show vet. It does have alfalfa meal and flaxseed. Any thoughts on those? I want to transition him from the purina DM wet. I have given him some friskies and fancy feast but it doesn't seem to satisfy Tripp all day. He begs for food midday when I have tried them.

His numbers are still all over the place. I am planning on making a spreadsheet soon. Need my hubbys help as I am totally computer illiterate. They have been anywhere from 450 pre shoot and pre food in morn to midday around 215 back up to 400's pre evening shot. 2 units twice a day. Could canned DM still have too many carbs for him? He never got dry was always wet

Does it have peas, potatoes, beans, lentils, carrots, beets? Those are all starchy vegetables which may increase the carbohydrate calories.

1) Check the can label with this online calculator.
2) Take the resulting calories from carbohydrate and divide them by the total calories to get an estimate of percent of calories from carbohydrate.

I looked online and alfalfa is used in pet food to replace meat protein. I guess it's used in this canned food to keep protien percentage up. If I did calculations correct it is under 10% carbs. I'm going to try to mix in with DM and see how numbers go.

Trip gets 1/2 can in morn and eve. He only weighs 8 lbs and could use to gain a few.

Feeding slightly smaller, more frequent meals helps put weight on. By not feeding a huge meal, you reduce the odds of scarf 'n' barf or being too full to eat more later.
