Food obsessed!

Louie is SO preoccupied with food now! no more dry food around and this 5 kitty household has had to adjust. I've heard here that I can give him all that he wants to eat at feeding time~ his reward after testing and before his injection. I would love to hear about your experience with this!
I'm guessing that the longer we do this Louie will equate food with testing and it might even get easier for us both~ (this is week 2)

my kitty was the same way when she was first diaganosed and unregulated. it would drive me crazy cos she was constantly begging for food, even when she just ate!!

i think it has something to do with the the sugar not being converted into energy due to the lack of insulin so the kitty thinks he is hungry all the time because the cells are being starved of that fuel

the good news is, that the food obsession should go away once he is regulated. my cat went from a maniacal, meowing all day, eating all her food once she got it, to pretty much a grazer and now she usually will only meow at me if im late on her feedings

Louis is soooooo beautiful....I just love his full round face,, and his eyes.

You did know that you can free feed wet food right? You just want to make sure that you pick it up about 1-2 hours before testing. I put food out for this household of 13 4 times a day. And yes, once Louie is regulated he will stop trying to eat you out of house and home. Maxwell when he first got here could scharf down 3-4 (5.5oz) cans of Friskies a day, once he went into remission he eats somewhere around 1 1/2 to 2 cans per day and even with that somedays he will leave some between feedings, if I didn't happen to serve the flavor he wanted for that day..lol

Testing will get easier. You will be less nervous (kitties pick up on this!), and he will also be feeling better by having lower blood glucose levels. My Donovan initially eyed me suspiciously and/or tried to hide whenever I came near him. I was a nervous wreck, and he felt like crap from high BGs, so it was a vicious cycle. I made it a point to purposely give him extra snuggles and kisses *without* pokeys so he wouldn't keep thinking of me as The Pokey Lady. Oh, and the treats definitely helped too. When he went OTJ, he kept looking for those treats at shot time for quite a while, so I gradually stopped. He gets snacks all the time, so it's not as if he's deprived

Favor: can you please remove the rainbow from your initial post? Around here it means that a cat has passed on, and can give us a heart attack :o when it is used accidentally
(oops, nevermind. It's gone now)
