Hi Guys -

I KNOW I'm not supposed to clog up Lantus Land, but you peeps are some of the best and brightest here and I need help or I'm gonna go back to the nut house.

I am looking for a food that is low carb and grain/gluten free that my cat WILL EAT. There is something going wrong with him and I feel desperate to help him. He is still throwing up daily and I am beside myself with worry. I am told by my vet that Spot's Stew is a good food for diabetic cats and it is grain free. I've called Halo twice to get numbers and they gave me one set of numbers which is "as fed" but based on weight - per Larry. Then I called again and they gave me as fed "dry matter" percents which seem more like what I'm looking for except they contain "fiber". ??? I am SO confused. Does anyone know how to make these numbers work so that I can figure out if their food are low carb?

Here is my thread from Health. Any help is greatly appreciated.

email them to Janet.

Ask for the breakdown of their foods in terms of the calories that come from protein, the calories that come from fat, and the calories that come from carbohydrates.

Straight off janet's page:
Obtain "as fed" or "dry weight" values of protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, and phosphorus from manufacturer. Cross check: if you also have values for water and ash, the values of protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, ash, and water should add up to 100%. None of them should be negative.

I called a few manufacturer's and they forwarded nutrient values broken down several ways in a doc. I am not condifent in my ability to accurately convert them, so posted like you for help with interpretations.

I am willing to pass these along and do some additional calling if Janet or someone who knows how to do the conversions wants to do them to update the lists.
there are so many new foods out there, and old ones that have changed formulas.

Also left a response on something in your other post.

Hi Betty-

A few people in Health made the conversions using Janet's calculators. I don't know if they are 100% accurate because people came up with different #'s but they are all similar.

Hi Traci! I'm so sorry Boomer is feeling badly still. (((Traci)))

Have you tried Evo 95%? I was also going to suggest Weruva but they aren't on J&B's chart so I called them to get some info. I am waiting on a call back. The guy was supposed to call me after he got off the phone but it's been over an hour and no call. If I hear back from him, I will post on the Health thread with the #s. I am specifically asking about the Paw Lickin' Chicken, as it's grain-free.

I hope Boomer starts to feel better soon; I know you must be worried. Sending good thoughts and healing vines your way.

Traci, First off, I hope Boomer feels better and gets back to eating.

I went out last night to look for foods to feed Belle, and ended up with 3 grain free brands: Evo 95% (Duck, and Chicken&Turkey varieties), Blue Buffalo Wilderness (Turkey, Duck and Chicken varieties) and a new brand I haven't seen before but the folks at the store said was getting excellent feedback, BFF or Best Friend Foods. All are seafood based, so maybe the fact that most grain free diets are meat makes that a plus for Boomer.

Good Luck,

Jason

Hi Jason-

I've seen BFF and I was like what the heck is this? (I use that term in jest a lot) "Is that your BFF?" etc. (BFF=Best Friend Forever) What about the carbs? Do you know any numbers?
