Prior to Miles' illness and subsequent diabetes diagnosis, he ate primarily Purina One, True Instinct, grain-free dry food. Occasionally, I'd feed him a can of Fancy Feast, Gravy Lovers, Salmon wet food which he adores.

Since the onset of his diabetes, ALL he'll eat is the Fancy Feast canned. I know it's not good for him, far too high in carbs. I've tried to transition him very gradually to Purina DM wet food by adding a tiny portion to the Fancy Feast. He absolutely refuses it! He's lost close to 2 lbs in the last month so I'm afraid to force the issue. But I also know the high carb food is just exacerbating his diabetes. Also, it's not safe to administer the insulin without food in his stomach? What to do?!

Are there any over the counter wet foods I can try that are lower carb? I'm in the Pacific NW, Wa state.

The Gravy Lovers is way to high in carbs for their every day meals
We feed Fancy Feast Classic Pates we like to stay under 10% carbs
Most of the are 2 or 3 carbs.
Take a look at the food chart for the low carbs

You should always have a few can of these on hand in case you need to bring up

It's mostly the gravy that has the higher carbs in it

Look at the food link I gave you , you might see other ones you may want to try

Hi @Miles & Tillie Mom and welcome.
Are there any other Fancy Feast canned food he will eat apart from the gravy lovers?. There are some FF that have gravy in them that are not high carb. Have a look at the list. A lot of cats don’t like the prescription canned food, it’s not necessary so have a look at the list foe some other alternatives. It’s important you can find a food he likes......I know it can be hard!

Ae you thinking of home testing the blood glucose levels? It is the best way to keep Miles safe and if you are going to swap over to a lower
Carb diet, you really need to be testing to make the transition safe as lower carb can drop the blood glucose up to 100 points.

What insulin and dose are you giving?
