ABANDONED CAT

Member Since 2017
I see that Dr. Pierson's food chart was last updated in 2017. I use it regularly for my cat, Wuffy. He is now off of his insulin and doing well in that department. But, I want to continue his diet to keep him healthy.

There is at least one new brand on the market I want to check out, but it does not appear on the chart. It is the brand for Pet-Valu, Performatrin, grain free. My daughter works for the store and has given me a case of this brand, kitten chicken formula. I want to know if it is safe for Wuffy and the 2 new kittens I have taken from a shelter.

Can anyone address this?

Thanks, I get regular 'lectures and advice' from my daughter who works for them. I actually trust Dr Pierson's chart more.

I should also say thanks to this site for giving me so much help a few years back when Wuffy was diagnosed with diabetes. You all did wonders in helping him and me to resolve his early issues with the disease and the insulin.

You can use online carb cat food calculators as well. I punched in the numbers but couldn't find the ash content ... it appears to be low-carb though, sans the ash percentage.

Another resource is CatFoodDB. The nutritional values are all derived from the manufacturer's published information, and you may not agree with her qualitative judgments, but at the very least it can save you from squinting at the fine print of an ingredients list on the side of a can.
