Hi, I'm new here. I have two 8 year old cats, one of which has been recently diagnosed with diabetes.

My non-diabetic cat has a sensitive stomach (possibly IBD), and a long history of vomiting and not tolerating foods. I finally found a combination that worked well for him and stopped the vomiting. The combo was Organix Healthy Cat (dry), and 1/2 can Fancy Feast Grilled Chicken or Turkey.

When my other cat was diagnosed w/ diabetes, I began feeding him Purina DM per vet's recommendation. I did my best to keep him away from the other cat's food, and feed them in separate rooms, but it didn't work. My cats won't eat unless they eat together.

Buying Purina for one cat was already stretching the budget...to buy it for two cats is way above my means...

I switched to Fancy Feast Classic Chicken Feast (thanks for the recommendation- read through posts on the forum), and my diabetic cat seems to be doing well on it. Unfortunately, my other non-diabetic cat is not tolerating it and is vomiting again. I'm at a loss of what to do. Any suggestions for me? Thanks!!

Pop over to Cat Info and check out the low carb, over the counter foods, some of which are Fancy Feast Classic pates. No need to feed the prescription food.

Im not sure if this will be helpfull to you but It was for me. I went to "Binky's page" on the internet and they have an EXTENSIVE list of many canned foods with the protein, carb and callorie counts listed. I have settled on mostly Friskies canned for ALL of my 3 cats. It seems to be working great for me. My baby has been on insulin for 3 months. They were all on dry food and I have switched them all to canned. The 2 non diabetic ones get some dry mixed into their wet to help me with cost. I get the Friskies at Pick n Save for 50 cents a can.

Unfortunately, Binky's page is incredibly out of date.
You can check unlisted items using this online calculator.
Then you take the calorie counts given and divide calories from carbohydrate by total calories to get the percentage of calories from carbohydrates.

Thanks BJM ! That is going to help me alot. There are alot of missing types that I couldnt find on Binkys page. But it was a good start for me at least.

MJO, your post struck a chord with me- you said your IBD/non-diabetic kitty vomited when eating Fancy Feast? I had one of the few kitties with that same problem, (mine was diabetic and IBD) would vomit if I fed Fancy Feast, even the Gravy Lovers during times when her BG was too low. It took awhile to find foods that she could eat, so here is Dr. Lisa's Food Chart, it does list a few canned formulas of Organix, but they are more medium to higher carb.

Has your vet explored the possibility of feeding a novel protein for your IBD kitty? Some choices would be Rabbit, Venison, Kangaroo, if you like I can find the list I had of low carb/high quality protein foods that others have used successfully.
