Mouse, my civvie cat, is having problems again. About a month ago she started drinking lots of water and straining in the pan. I took her in and no uti. Yay....but no answers. I took her in yesterday because still not better and she's in and out of the pan a lot, but not producing much. Still no UTI. The vet wants to do another ultrasound. That's not happening. I've joined the FLUTD group and it sounds like this could be cystitis and bladder spasms. I'm giving her d mannose and cornsilk. What else should I be doing? I did ask on the FLUTD group, but no answers yet and my girlie is unhappy!

My non diabetic cat buddy for Neko got his cystitis diagnosis a week after Neko got hers for diabetes. I presume Mouse is on a low carb diet? Try for low phosphorus where you can, and make sure to add plenty of water. My civvie went on a raw diet the same time as Neko, on recommendation of his vet. But basically it was low carb/low P. He also got glucosamine supplements too and started on Cartrophen, which is our equivalent to Adequan. I also put in some Feliway diffusers. Often cystitis cats are nervous ones. The above is what I did for general maintenance. Once I had the right combo of fluids with his food, he never had another episode.

Before then, and for flairs, definitely pain meds, fluids, and even Cerenia for it's anti inflammatory properties.

She is definitely my nervous one! She is on homemade raw and Stella and Chewy selects. She's my IBD cat. I add tons of water, too. She will start Adequan tonight and is already on Gabapentin. She seems a bit better today. She isn't shaking when I handle her. Poor baby. She's always had problems.

Then the only thing remaining is something like Cosequin or other glucosamine. I also tried Hyaflex (hyaluronic acid) for a while too. Supposed to help the bladder walls.

Glad to hear she's feeling a bit better now.

Sheba suffered with FLUTD and I basically did what Wendy did for her kitty. I found it all helped but the main thing was trying to keep stress situations as few as possible.
