fluid retention?

You're not giving fluids, are you?

Are you sure it's fluid? If you're giving fluid, it should absorb. If you're not giving fluids, I would get Simke in to the vet. This is not a usual occurence.
 
No, not giving fluids, at the vet, options appear to be congestive heart failure, kidney although his kidneys were fine 3 weeks ago :(
 
No, not a 'normal' diabetes related thing...I tend to agree with vet about congestive heart failure. My civie Scruffy (GA) had the same thing - vet put him on enalapril and lasix. Fluid normally gathers either in their lungs or their abdomen, Scruff's lungs stayed clear until almost the end over a year later. When his was bad, the fluid even gathered in his legs and chest under the skin. Even if that's what it is, it CAN be managed fairly easily. My GA ShihTzu also had CHF - she too took the same meds.

My mother has that... I wondered earlier when you said Simke had fluid on his body....

I'm glad you started another condo to ask about it....

How old is Simke..? nevermind... I just ran to your first post and found it.... Ten....
He's not that old....

What all has your vet said about it?
Sounds like you could use medications to help with that.....
 
Have a diuretic to use if his breathing gets bad, but not really any solutions no clear answer to why, when they ultrasounded there was not a fluid pocket even though it feels that way, maybe organ enlargement, he has gained 1.5 kilos in three weeks :( she said that was very abnormal
 
You may want to ask your vet for a referral to an internal medicine specialist (or ask your vet to consult with one) if your vet can't come up with any answers.

Fluid retention in the Internet don't sound great.
 
Any ideas for things that are treatable? I only want to pursue things that would change course of treatment.
 
Until you know what may be causing the fluid retention, it's only guesswork as to what to treat. There are plenty of kitties who have heart issues and take diuretics. But, you can't just give a diuretic unless you know that its going to be the right medication for the problem.
