Hi you all, Fluffy has been doing well since the last time. Numbers still are up and down but no problems until now. He is not using the litter box. He pees on the chairs, couch poops anywhere he wants too. He has been to the vet had blood work done, no problems just high numbers, xrays done no problem. Vet gave him antibodies because he had a bladder infection. This has been going on for about 3 months. I have to put covers on all the furniture because I never know where he is going to go. Any ideas? Rose
 
incontenent? have you thought about trying a feliway plug in? I've had one for a couple of weeks because my cat has developed a phobia of the couch. The plug in is supposed to help with inproper urination, amoung other things. Pet smart sells it but I got mine from Drs Foster & Smith. Never had this problem with my cats, so hopefully someone else can chime in for u...
 
It's possible the urination is from the uncontrolled diabetes. I took a look at his spreadsheet, and it looks like his dose has been too high, but it's hard to tell because there aren't many mid-cycle numbers that show us how the insulin is working.

Would it be possible for you to get an additional test each day somewhere in the middle of his cycle? I'm not familiar with Prozinc, but he may need the dose lowered, and the only way to tell is to get some more tests in the cycle to see how it's working each day. 3u definitely looks too high. I think if you can get his numbers under control the urination may stop.

In the meantime, putting multiple litter boxes out may help to encourage to go there instead of on your furniture. Feliway also works sometimes if the urination is behavioral, but I have a feeling that it's because of the high numbers.

I looked at the SS, but the last date I see any data for is in June? Is there another page I'm not seeing?
What's Fluffy's current dosage if I'm just not seeing it?

Thanks I like to idea about the plugins. Will try that. I have not had time to post his numbers on the spreadsheet because am dealing with a lot of problems right now I now have a cat that has seazures, a dog with congestive heart failure, and it takes me about 1/2 hr to give all their medicines and this is twice a day. The vet changed his dose because he was running in the 400-500 range most of the time. I am very happy if I can get him the low 200. I have 2 litter boxes in different parts of the house. Thanks your help.
 
Sorry his dosage is 3 1/2 u twice a day. I have had no problems with him using the litter box until about 3 months ago. We have a new young female cat who is 1 yr old. We have had her about 7 months and she is the queen. She eats first, beats up on our other 3 cats and rules the roost. It is possible she is chasing him from the litter box do not know. The other cats are males and never a problem.thanks for your help.
 
I think that 3.5u is probably too much insulin, since 3u was too much insulin. The problem with raising the dose based off only his preshot numbers is that you don't know how low he is going during his cycle, which is why getting a test in the middle is important. If he's going too low then it's going to make his blood sugar go high in order to combat the hypoglycemic numbers. A too high dose looks exactly the same as a too low dose unless you get some tests in the middle of the cycle.

I know you have your hands full, but one more test only takes a few minutes do and it could really, really help Fluffy. I don't think his condition is going to improve if you keep raising the dose...in fact, it will likely worsen. You can try feliway, but it's not going to help anything if the urination is being caused by his uncontrolled diabetes, which is likely is.

You've been taking your vets recommendations and Fluffy has not improved. Why not try this out for a couple weeks with our help? If you don't see an improvement you can go back to the way you're doing it now.

Definite possibility that the female is chasing him from the box. My sugarcat Bob has always been the "king" of the box. He used to slap the heck out of his sister (RIP) every time she had the nerve to use "his" box. I added a 2nd box, and he just took over a 2nd kingdom. She would either wait till he was out on the porch to use the box in the house, or vice versa. So she would occasionally pee on a throw rug or in the tub. As soon as Bob heard the noise of somebody scratching in the box, he'd come running. Now I have a civie who won't use the box unless he gets locked in the house when we go to work. Otherwise he'll just wait to go outside. Bob still rules 2 boxes. I wish he'd learn to scoop them!

Wasn't being critical about your SS. I just didn't know if the SS was old, or I had some sort of problem being able to access it. I understand the time crunch. I never made a SS, just kept a pen and paper log.

I'm with Julia on the dosing and testing. A mid-cycle number is really critical in determining what the insulin is actually doing. Too much insulin can show the same symptons as not enough insulin when his body decides to fight the benefit given by the insulin. If his liver is counteracting the insulin every day, his pancreas will never be able to take over the job of supplying insulin, and your dose will just keep going up and up.
