Merlin has been on 0.5 unit for the last week, after last weekend's BG curve and going a tad lower than desired at 0.75 unit (but AM that morning - 201 - was also lower than his normal pre shot numbers). It seems like he has not really been having any response at 0.5 unit. There has also been an increase in urine the last week. I will consult with the vet tomorrow, but to me it seems like he needs to go back up to 0.75 unit. Either that or I've managed to ruin my Lantus already, which I've been really careful not to inject any air but there are several bubbles in the pen. The color is still clear though.

Any thoughts? Thanks :)

I agree that it's time try try 0.75 u again. Just be prepared to monitor more because of what he did last time.

I do have a few thoughts...

First, it might offer you some additional insight into Merlin's numbers if you were able to get at least a "before bed" test every night. Some kitties like to drop into lower numbers during the PM cycle. If this is the case for Merlin, it may give some explanation for higher numbers. Frankly, it makes me a bit nervous to encourage you to increase back to 0.75u without seeing PM tests.

Which dosing strategy are you using? If you could note if you're using Tight Regulation or Start Low Go Slow in your signature line it will help us to know what to suggest with regard to how long you should be holding a dose.

If it were me, I'd ditch the dry food. Even a tablespoon may be inflating Merlin's numbers. Dry food is much more slowly metabolized than canned food so it can take longer than expected to have an effect on numbers and definitely longer to work its way our of your cat's system.

While it's been over a week since Merlin dropped into low numbers, I would probably be cautious about raising his dose back to a full 0.75u if you can't routinely test during the AM and PM cycles. One option is to increase the dose to a "fat" 0.5u -- this would be a dose between 0.5 and 0.75u. If you are able to monitor Merlin's numbers, then increasing back to the last good dose (0.75u) is fine.

I think it must be SLGS with eating dry. I agree with Sienne. Many drop lower at night. My cat did.

Thank you. Based on the descriptions I'm more following the SLGS method. I've tried getting him off dry, but he was underweight and not eating enough wet food. When he's up to a normal weight I will try again. I will try to be consistent with getting a +2 or +3 before bed.
