Flagyl. Oh Boy. Happy Update!

Has anyone had any success with liquid Flagyl administration? It has been prescribed for Dorje, and the first dose caused him to gag, then run around the house frothing at the mouth! Second dose was followed by a syringe of water, which caused the same reaction, only with watery froth. Third dose was attempted mixed with food run through the food processor, eventually watered down and syringed into him. I searched "Flagyl" and got a suggestion of tuna juice, which I'll try next. I got some of it into him today mixed with Fortiflora, which he LOVES. I don't know how I'll survive two weeks of this! Thanks!

Updated to add: Well, the tuna juice is the magic elixir! I mix a couple of cc's of tuna juice with the 1cc of Flagyl liquid, and voila! No escapes! Of course wrapping him up like a burrito doesn't hurt, either! Thanks for the suggestions, and if anyone asks, tuna juice may be the secret!

I know we got the same reaction. I was pilling them though. I recollect it being very bitter and that is what brings on the frothing.

If you can get it as a pill, cut it in bits, and put it in pieces of pill pocket, you may have better luck.

It tastes horrid; I've gotten it in my mouth from shake off!

The 1/4 of a 250 mg tablet just fits in a #3 gelcap. That is what I use.

I agree with Larry. That is what I did this past winter for Cookie, cut it up and/or mashed it, and put it in a # 3 capsule. Make sure to wipe off the outside with a tissue to get any of the residual Flagyl off of it, and then have a syringe of water to squirt in the side of the mouth and that worked great for Cookie.

Gel cap is the O N L Y way. That stuff is the worst. GOOD LUCK. :/

Thanks for the suggestions! I already have the liquid, and had moderate success mixing it with tuna juice and syringing it into a tightly-burrito'd cat, holding on for dear life, while trying to stroke his throat so he'd swallow! No torn clothing today! Hooray!
