I'm still relatively new. I was just curious What sort of antibacterial thing you guys are using on your cat's ears for blood testing (if anything) I'm currently using just alcohol.

Hi CocoButterBall's parent, and, of course, you too, sweet CocoButterBall,

I'm not an FIV parent. I just use Vaseline because it beads the blood.

I'm thinking alcohol probably stings.

Does CocoButterBall live in a multiple cat household? Is that why you feel the need for an antibacterial thing for home testing?

I'm sorry I don't know much about you or FIV. Just love your cat's name and photo!

Wishing you all the best kind of encouraging hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

I have an FIV foster and I use nothing on his ears. if you need to, you can use a little vaseline or tripe AB for dollar store or anything along those lines. my cat is doing just fine

Hi, CocoButterBall is so handsome! And what a cute name too!

I currently don't have any FIV+ kitties anymore, but I did have two. My second one, Seasaidh, was the diabetic kitty. I never used anything on his ears and he did just fine. I used to give him Lysine though, to help his immune system. He ended up getting cancer and that's what took him away from me. Btw, he lost his eye from diffuse iris melanoma and it had nothing to do with his FIV. And I had my other cats tested and they all came back FIV-. Good luck with CocoButterBall.

It is generally not suggested to put alcohol on ears before poking, nor
to swab the shot area, either.

Unnecessary...

If you want, you can swab the top of the vial occasionally. Not every day
because alcohol can dry out the rubber part where you insert the syringe.
