Fish?

I thought I read somewhere - maybe this website a long time ago? But I can't find the reference anymore - that diabetic cats should not eat too much fish. If that's correct, can anyone point me to the link that explains why, and what constitutes "too much" fish? Or give me the quick explanation?

Thanks!

I think it is on Dr. lisa's site under the food section: www.catinfo.org. I think it's the mercury content and that some cats may decide they only want to eat fish and quit eating everything else. So the general suggestion is once a week or so.

On the same site, you might find some alternate low carb choices and go to the store with your new list?

Also, consider - how many of our cats would go catch a salmon, trout, tuna, etc. Those really aren't part of a natural diet for them. Of course, neither are beef, pork, sheep, goats, etc. Maybe small chicks, rodents, rabbits, and squirrels would be something they could catch themselves.

He ate Fancy Feast for years, then he got tired of it. So I switched him to Friskies and 9 Lives using the list here on this site. He will eat the non-fish flavors, but he likes the fish flavors better. I think I'd be hard-pressed to limit him to one can of fish per week. Too bad you can't buy canned cat food with rodents, rabbits and squirrels!
