Trying a little fish oil in the food for Diego's dandruff. It has gotten pretty flaky and bad and in combo with daily brushing (I do this around the same time I warm his little ear to do his poke--he has grown to like it and we call it his 'Premium Spa Package' because it's followed up with a Pure Bites salmon treat and an ear massage with pain relief ointment :D) I bought a bottle of 100 certified purified fish oil capsules at GNC today and then when I got them home I see that there is rosemary oil extract listed as an ingredient. I've consulted good old Google about it which said that it's not listed as a toxic food for cats but causes stomach upset in many, on the other hand it's a common additive in cat breath fresheners, treats, etc. Anyone have any input? Right now I'm cautious to give him any and thinking I might just take the capsules as my own supplement and buy him another bottle.

Wow, and it's cheap!! Thanks, @BJM

I was looking at their oils and I see that they also add rosemary extract to their oils as a protective agent. So the capsules I have must be safe to give him.

I have noticed that some of the foods that I give Vyktor contain Rosemary extract. I would give it and just monitor for stomach upset and change to something else if there's a problem.

I go to many of the holistic veterinary conferences with progressive vets-
Deep sea cold water fish is fantastic for cats/dogs/humans...
I like grizzly salmon and I also like the krill (does different things) they also make pollock oil which is ok but not the absolute best --however it is less costly.
My cats will not eat the salmon oil--
there are some other good brands and I hate to say it but very cheap brands I have found to be not as good quality.
There is a good company called apawthercay.. they are also knowledgable you can call (I would ask for Raney) they have a good oil-
It is important not to let it go rancid so for cats I usually recommend the 4 oz bottle.
good luck:cat:

Yeah the one I bought today has some type of lemon scent/ flavoring added in the actual oil. The bottle says lemon flavored capsule and I took that to mean that the capsules have a flavored coating but no. It's in the oil itself so I'll be getting a cat-specific oil

also start slllllllooooowwww or you will get runny pooh--it is worth the slow start as the benefits rock!

kril is the 1 I can usually count on him licking up--as soon as he hears me shake the bottle he comes-
it helps arthritis too!
