Hello all! Chloe has almost made her 6 month OTJ anniversary :) and I couldn’t have done it without this group.
She has arthritis now as I think most know and takes Adequen usually every 10-14 days as well as acupuncture twice a month. Both have helped so much! She’s doing well. In the beginning the vet who diagnosed who arthritis recommended fish oil and ordered her a fish oil called Catalyst. It was liquid with a pump and it just mixed in her food. I’m not sure if it specifically was helpful but I know she has improved so overall everything together has been successful. the only issue with it was it was extremely messy and the pump was awful hahaha she didn’t seem to notice it in the food though so perhaps I shouldn’t change it and just figure out how to better store it?
Is anyone familiar with this brand? If not is there a brand you use to recommend?

The thing I most worry about is the heavy metal content. I did a search on consumerlab.com, and let me post the top pick (best price with good quality):

But don't take my words, I am no expert on that .

Heavy metal content in ocean fish is something no one ever thought to look for until 10 years ago. It's a real thing and it's very nasty.
Like Peter I'm no expert but I do know you'll never find it on any label.
I'm very interested in the acupuncture. My chiropractor considered doing animals but it wasn't worth the effort and legal issues.

Interesting, I’m not too familiar with the heavy metals information. Thank you for sharing. Her dr indicated the fish oil was of benefit for the joints, which I can’t say specifically if it was that but in combination of everything there has been significant benefit. She can now jump on the couch again :)
Regarding the acupuncture, I had no experience with it but learned of it from this group and found a local vet who practices holistic and conventional medicine. It has been wonderful and Chloe doesn’t even mind it. I hope you can find someone in your area. :)

thank you; im not familiar with either of these but I think they must be for human use since I recognize Costco branding. I don’t know if that makes any difference? The one I had was animal only, but that might not make any difference. I was thinking it helped her but I can’t sat for sure

Just keep in mind that everything is or was bad for you. Coffee, red wine, tofu and pregnancies, zombies.
Everything in perspective.

Yes, they are for human use. I do not there are any important differences between fish oil for humans and fish oil for pets. I would choose fish oil for humans because human products are more monitored than pet products.

I think it is helpful to mention the products that are not approved by ConsumerLab.com (paid report), it samples 32 supplements, and 3 of them fail the test, and one of them fail the heavy metal test.

Also, the price difference of fish oil is huge

So I think one need to do careful research on choosing supplement, it is a very unregulated market.
