Hi Guys. I have a few questions and was wondering if anyone can help me out.
Question #1 - in regards to fish oil...how much is enough to give my civvie Ralph? He seems to be having some back/hip discomfort and fish oil was suggested. I also want to give it to my other civvie, Ali and to Spot. All three kitties are getting up there in age - Ali is 10, Ralph is 11, and Spot is 13. I bought 1200 mg. ones and the vet who saw Ralph last week said one capsule was to much. Not that I don't trust her judgement, but when I asked her how much he should have, she didn't really know...just said to split the once capsule into 3's.
Question #2 - would an infection cause a non-diabetic cat's bg's to raise? I have tested civvie Ralph quite a few time since Spot's DX and he usually gives me anywhere between 50-69. Took him to the vet last week for some issues He seems to be depressed, isn't jumping up on bed/chairs as much, sleeping a lot, no crying like he used to, and just not acting Ralphie like. They did some tests and his BUN level was a tad on the higher side and his bg was 258 (I figured that was just vet stress). Vet said that his urine was clear so it looks like his kidneys are still working and didn't seem to be to overly concerned. They gave him some fluids before we left I've been testing him at least once a day since then and he's been giving me anywhere from 130-180. I think he needs his teeth cleaned, they have a lot of tarter on them, but vet said that this should not be an issue and she wasn't worried about his teeth. Now, I had my fingers in his mouth and could feel the tarter on his teeth...lumps on the teeth...and his breath is smelly. Today, when I take him back for his recheck I'm going to schedule him for a dental. So I'm thinking that if his teeth are bad, that would raise his bg's right? I'm going to check him before we leave for the vet today and then talk to the vet in regards to starting him on insulin. Any feedback on this?
