Hi everyone,

So thankfully Tribby's BGL is slowly coming down with caninsulin 2 x a day and I am getting more proficient at BG testing. Her levels are around 12 now, lowest so far is 9.

My question is: What treats does everyone feed while giving the insulin? I am using a 40 u caninsulin syringe. I give it with the bevel up, level with her spine and use the pinch and roll technique. She is still noticing the poke and sometimes squeaks. She was eating tuna the last few days at poke time but has lost interest. This morning she even tried to escape at injection time.

I really want to make this experience as pleasant as possible for her with as little " ouch factor" as possible.

Are there and specific treats you recommend while injecting?
I love her up and even brush her a bit to relax her.

Thanks in advance and thanks again for all the tips and tricks!

My Patches II tend to bie me when I inject so I just inject when she is finishing here food. For my other tow I just inject when they are done feeding. No treat at all.

I buy the Orijen brand freeze dried meat treats and Teasel loves them. They come in several blends - poultry, wild boar, etc. If you have a Global Pet Foods near you, they carry them. You can also buy Pure Bites freeze dried treats at Pet Smart but my preference is Orijen.

If she is tucking into her food, I think you could safely inject while she is eating. If you prefer to wait until she is finished due to Caninsulin's sharp drop then perhaps freeze-dried chicken would be a good option. If can be broken into several tiny bits that will occupy her while you inject. Whatever reat she likes that is zero carb such as the fd chicken is fine - give as many as you need to keep her busy.
