First time home test for Ozzie

Hi Everyone -

I started to home test this evening on Ozzie but don't know when I test him again. He was 356 from the vet's test on Monday and I tested him after he ate (b/c he wouldn't sit still till he got some food) and by the time I got a prick and some blood that was almost 1 hour after he ate and it was 318 so I went ahead and gave him a shot - I probably did this all wrong but can someone let me know if I need to test him again tonight before bed or should I wait now before the shot in the AM and should I test before he eats? He seems so much better since Monday but I guess 318 is still way too high!
Any advice is much appreciated!

IMHO, you can relax for the night. 318 is not an awful number for a new diabetic. It's a place to start from. Yes, test before you feed and shoot in the morning. What kind of insulin and what dose?

Maybe Mom can have a treat and breathe?
 
Thanks Sue -- so I don't need to test again tonight? I test him tomorrow morning before I give food, just want to be sure so I don't prick if it's not necessary???

Yes, Ozzie on lantus 1 unit x 12 hours.
