I just did Noah's first spreadsheet an I'm worried. He's been on Lantus for 5 weeks and 4 units 2x/day for 6 days. Peaks all over the place (6 to 12 hrs) - I've done a couple of curves before.

BG rarely gets below 200 and is sometimes nearly 600. Today (Jan 8) was a fluke. Started out at 154 before shot and stayed below 200 for, I’m guessing, approximately 3 hrs, but did go steadily up throughout the day.

Just for reference, he tends to have biggest meals with shots and 2-3 smaller meals between. He had lost a lot of weight, so I need him to eat as much as possible - (it is working – he’s added weight.)

How much longer can he stay on 4u doses with BG spikes so extremely high at 500+ and much of the day in the 300 range? This is exhausting.

Also once he gets regulated, how do I know he’s staying regulated if I only do curves once in a while?

First of all breath! It takes time to get our kitties regulated after they are diagnosed with diabetes, it's not something that happens over night. What insulin is Noah on?

I can't look at your spreadsheets rom the link you posted, you will have to change your permission settings.

I'm sure one of the more experienced members will be along to help you out more in a bit.

Noah is pretty cute by the way, love the tongue sticking out!

The second "Noah's Spreadsheet" in the signature works.....and Here's your earlier post too

Do you have the results of the other curves you did? If you do, it'll help to add those to your spreadsheet

4 units is a HUGE dose for so soon in the diagnosis. What dose was he started at and how quickly did the dose go up? We generally start at between .5 and 1 unit every 12 hours and only increase in .25 unit increments so we don't go past a dose that might be perfect for our kitties.

Next...what are you feeding? Low carb canned or raw (under 10%) is another vital part of getting control. I see you're feeding low carb raw...Good for you!!

It's impossible to know what's going on with your sweet Noah based on one curve.....Here we always test before shooting (to make sure they're high enough to shoot at all) and then we test somewhere mid-cycle on the AM cycle and we get at least a "before bed" test on the PM cycle

Lantus dosing is based on how LOW it takes them, so it's important to get more testing in to see what's going on with Noah.

One of the crazier things about insulin is that too much can look like too little!! If you're giving too high of a dose, it takes the blood glucose too low and then Noah's liver will release stored sugars and hormones to bring him back up fast. It's kind of a leftover survival mechanism that we call "bouncing".....so while you might think the dose isn't working, what's really happening is the dose is too high and the liver is in a constant state of "bounce"....and you see those high numbers because you're not testing enough to catch the low numbers

Bounces can take up to 3 days to clear, so without seeing more tests on Noah over the next few days, we really can't advise you on what might be going on, but we'll be VERY happy to help you learn all you can about the sugardance if you'll give us the chance!!

Edited to add...the fact that he went up so high today after starting out in a much better number makes me really feel like he's probably on too much insulin and he's "bouncing". He could have dropped even lower last night and that AMPS number was already "on the way up"
