Hi everybody.
I've been lurking and reading so much over the past couple of weeks. My kitty was diagnosed 4/23. He was rapidly losing weight and it all seemed to come on pretty quickly. He has been prescribed Novolin, which I have read is not the best so I really want to change that soon.
Started at 2U twice a day. Numbers still kinda high so I called vet last week and he said to up his dose to 3U but I really didn't feel comfortable doing such a high increase (due to reading so much here) so I upped it just a bit. He seemed to be bouncing up more with numbers going into the 500's after the increase, so just today I put him back down to 2U. I read on the Facebook group that TOO much insulin could have a negative effect as well. ??? I do not trust this vet very much as he doesn't really seem to know a lot and offered VERY little information. Everything I have learned has been on here and the FB page. I am a research queen!!
Taco has gained ALL of his weight back and looks SO GOOD in just three short weeks. I just wish I could get his numbers down. I know I need a different insulin and the vet is willing to prescribe Lantus but wanted to see how he did upping his dose first.
So I'm not sure what I'm asking or what questions I have. I just wanted to post and see what other's opinions are. I have linked his spreadsheet in my signature.
Just to add -- I have not been doing his AMPS test because my husband gives it to him while I'm still sleeping. I know I need to start doing that soon but his numbers have been so high that I thought for right now it is okay to do that and I don't see him going into hypo right now. I either need to change his shot schedule or teach hubby how to test. Or just bite the bullet and wake up to do it myself. Lol!
