Hello, my name is Chey I'm Qtips mom. We just found out today he is diabetic. Of course I was quite upset, still am. Still working out the first day details and Qtip goes back to the vets tomorrow for urinalysis. He us quite weak, but we've managed to drink some and eat a tiny bit of wet food. He did a nice big pee pee. I pray we can get thru this and get back to us soon. I look forward to learning all I can here, but for now my heads pounding and I need rest while Qtip rests.
Ty, talk soon

Morning Chey and Qtip. This is the wrong place to post medical questions and introductions. You can just copy and paste (or rewrite the whole thing) into the forum Feline Health - (Welcome & Main Forum). Then later you can just delete this post as I will this one. It's no big deal and welcome to both of you. ;)

Hello and welcome Chey - I moved your post to Feline Health so you can get some answers. Thanks @Noah & me (GA)

We have a few things that you'll need to consider when you talk to the vet. First, this will mean starting insulin, and hopefully one that is appropriate for cat. Prozinc, Lantus and Levemir are the three we find best here. Once we know which one, we can help you with that. Second, it'll be important to make sure Qtip is eating food appropriate for a diabetic. What is he eating now? Glad to hear he's already eating some wet food as low carb food is either wet or raw. And thirdly, we are strong advocates of testing a cat's blood sugars at home. Cats are often stressed and have higher blood sugar values at the vet. Home testing also lets you know if it's safe to give insulin and help you learn how to adjust the dose on your own - saving you money. We have lots of posts and videos to help you get started with that too.

When you say he's weak, what do you mean? Is it his hind legs? That could be neuropathy, and methyl B-12 can help with that, as will getting his blood sugar numbers regulated.
