First glucose curve

I'm hiring someone to do a glucose curve for little Star because I am unable to do it myself. I understand that it needs to be once every 2 hours for a 12 hour period, but does the 12 hours specifically need to start right before the morning shot? Star gets their shots at 6 am and pm but I don't want the person doing the curve to have to come over that early. Can we just start the 12 hours at 8am and go until 8pm, while keeping the shot times the same?

You would have to test him at 6AMto get his BG number ,feed , then shoot
You need to withhold food 2 hours prior so his BG is not food influenced,
Then test him every 2 hours , you can feed him then like you normally do during the curve
So the next test would be at 8AM
Then 10: AM and so on

Your previous post mentions you went from 1 unit to 2 units
We don't increase by whole units, we increase or decrease by 0.25 units at a time
Have you read the 2 different dosing methods , they will tell you when you need to increase or decrease the dose.

Can you please start testing him everyday and night so we can see how the insulin is working , that's the only way we can give you any advice
If you are still feeding the dry food you will have to go with the dosing method SLGS

Part of the rationale for doing a curve is so you know when insulin onset starts and where nadir falls. If you're starting 2 hours after shot time, you won't have quite the information you need -- or it won't be in context. On the other hand, it's better than nothing.

Since you've noted that you're having difficulty with testing, can the person who is going to be helping you show you how to test so you can routinely be successful and you can maintain your data and spreadsheet? To be honest, knowing that you're shooting blind makes me very nervous.

The vet told me to increase from 1 to 2 units so I did what he said. I have not read the 2 different dosing methods because I haven't have capacity to read all the recommended documents. I'll read that next, but I need syringes that have smaller units of measurement in order to implement changes smaller than 1cc. Does anyone know where I can get those?

But if we have the data from right after the evening shot, shouldn't that work just as well? That's what I'm confused about

And yes, I hope to learn from them, thank you. I've needed someone to sit me down and teach me how everything works but I haven't had access to that kind of information

Not all cats follow the rules when it comes to onset, nadir, and duration. For example, a typical Lantus cycle will show onset at +2, nadir at +6, and duration until your next pre-shot. My cat's onset could be as early as immediately or +1, she had an early nadir -- at +3 except when it wasn't, and she had decent duration given how early her onset and nadir were.

If your first test is at +2, you may not have any of the early information, especially if you don't have a pre-shot test. Because Lantus is a depot insulin, there is overlap between the doses. It's very hard to understand your own cat's pattern based on on one cycle. It gives you a snapshot but not the entire landscape. Nadirs can and do move around. Thus, if you are attempting to make decisions based on that one cycle and the data you currently have, you will be making decisions based on insufficient information.
