Good morning everyone,
Hope all is well !

Well last night was our first PZI shot,
I know he had a good night because he was up all night
I didnt take his numbers until 5:30 this morning and he was at 236, BUT
does anyone know about Lantus and the shed.
I never understood that and I was wondering how long it would take bafore Lantus is
out of his body and PZI really took over
When he was on Lantus he almost always had good nights and bad days
so I think this morings number could be because of the lantus

but anyway, I will continue to monitor him today even though he is doing what he always did on Lantus

Thanks for any input and I will talk to you all later

I don't now how long the Lantus will last - maybe a question for the Lantus group. I know they said the shed would be deleted after skipping shots, but I don't know a time frame.

The nice thing about PZI is that if aren't seeing good numbers after a cycle or two, you can raise the dose. I wouldn't hang out in the pinks very long without raising the dose. The other thing you can do is shoot early with PZI, if he is in high numbers and clearly climbing. Just have to know if the next shot will mess up your schedule.....

Hi Sue,
thanks for the input
I am going to give it a day or 2 before I increase because he is doing what he always did on Lantus
during the day, his numbers would rise and the last 2 or 3 hours is when he would drop so I
am going to hold off for a while

I will post again later tonight
THanks for your help

Good Morning Denise!
The first thing I would say is as hard as it is...and it may be verra verra hard...is to forget everything you know about shooting lantus. It may take a while, but it's true. It's apples and oranges.
That shed should be clear within 24 hours after last shot. and very weakened before that.
My cat also used to run different amps and pmps...and on pzi that was treated with different doses. Altho looking back I would have fine tuned that way better than I did then. I now use Lev. which strangely has evened out his amps and pmps..so go figure.
I can work with you on some ideas about the dosing and especially differing amps and pmps as i've been there done that and now in hindsight might have approached it from a different angel.
I'm going to study your ss now and will brb.
Lori
and tomtom too!

Ahhh, yes. Shakes. Is this the kitty who is having a hard time walking?

Well day one and a half on pz and Shake's is so far going the wrong direction huh? his nadir is higher than his amps. I would'nt let that go on for long (please let me know if this is a kitty who already had a DKA) i don't know considering his history with the lantus if everyone would view this as a kitty potentially on some chronic rebound due to too much insulin....or a higher dose kitty.
if the concensus is he is higher dose i would start tonight by raising .5

fwiw, when i started the lev (and if lev and lantus are similiar in this way) the dose reduction (shoot 1/2 what i was shooting) was built in becuase i'm guessing the lev is stronger stuff? so the opposite would be true here?

Hi Lori and Tom,

Yes here we are again, ..
My gut feeling is that he has been on a rebound for awhile now and I want to try to get him off(if I am right)
his numbers today are what they always are during the day on Lantus
At night is when he gets active and his numbers go down

I want to try to keep him at one unit, at least for tonight
and see how he does tonight
I did not take as mcuh blood today as I wanted in hopes that I can get more tonight.
If he has a bad night then I will raise him to 1.5 tomorrow morning

How do you feel about that??

Thanks you both for your help

Denise you won't really need to test quite as frequently on pz. we don't have double dips, we don't have much unpredictable worries. your +3 to see how fast things are happening and your +6 or 7 to catch a nadir...that's about it. for now.
so once we determine if rebound is shakes issue...we can move (or not) on it.
hoping it was rebound and we can stick to the unit.
