Hi Everyone! I'm Jeannie and very new to feline diabetes (and this site--which I LOVE). My sugar kitty is Cairo (she's about 14 years old, Fancy Feast 4X/day). I home test 2-3X/day using ReliOn Confirm. I'm comfortable with home testing (she's very good for me) and I'm learning to use the spreadsheet (which I will attach shortly). Cairo had her very FIRST shot of insulin today. She is taking Lantus .5 units/12 hours (5:30 am/5:30 pm). I'm hoping a few of you will be online with me for the next hour or so (and maybe through the night) in case I have questions or need any help.

Re: FIRST day on insulin!

Welcome to Lantus Land, Jeannie and extra sweet Cairo! I'm glad you came over from the FB group!

Here, we always put the link to our last condo into the new one, so here's your condo from Relaxed Lantus

This board is a lot more active and you'll find lots of good help here!

Cairo is doing GREAT for her first day on insulin!! We love to see them respond so well on so little insulin!

Here's her Spreadsheet from Facebook until she learns how to post it herself

Again, welcome to the best place you never wanted to be!

Hint...you could go ahead and put your PMPS # and the other test results in your subject line here...just edit it to change it...then tomorrow morning, you start a new condo, link this one to it and that's the only condo you post for tomorrow

Re: FIRST day on insulin!

Thanks Chris! I'm so wiped out right now so I'll fix the "condo" thing in the morning. I'm going to test once more at 11:30 then set the alarm and try to sleep for a bit. I'm trying to teach Cairo to post her own spreadsheet but something about not having opposable thumbs keep coming up! Thanks for being there for me tonight!

Re: FIRST day on insulin!

You're doing great and you got your spreadsheet link into your signature box perfectly!

Just to catch anyone else dropping in up with what's going on, she took a couple weeks to transition to low carb food and learn to home test. Tonight's her first cycle on Lantus and she's starting at .5

PMPS was 239,+2 217,+4 100,+5 101

We're hoping Cairo is up on her surfboard and won't wipe out!

She'll report back with her +6 when she gets it (about 15 minutes I think)

She's looking like she wants food (which is a normal look for her) but she doesn't usually go looking for it this time of night.

She can have another snack of LC food and then I'd test in an hour

Edited to Add....go ahead and add that last number to that first Subject Line...each time you get a new test, you Edit that first subject line so when people are scanning the boards, they can see what's going on

Hi Jeannie and welcome to you and Cairo to Lantus Land. Cairo is doing amazingly well on Lantus. I'd go ahead and give her a couple tsp of her regular low carb food. It's probably been a while since she's been in these nice normal numbers and is looking for food to help keep her safe. 89 is still a nice safe number, but given that the Lantus depot isn't really established yet, she's doing really well for her first dose.

Hi Jeannie,

I'm not a Lantus user but will be around to keep you company if you need help through the night. (I'm in the UK and it's morning here ~O) )
I'll have a read through of your posts to find out the 'story so far'.

Welcome to FDMB!

Eliz

Welcome to LantusLand! Wow...Cairo is looking awesome for her first dose of Lantus....it looks like the food transition is really working for her!!

Hey Jeannie,

The other advice I would give you is read as many condos as you possibly can, ESPECIALLY when there is dicussions about trends and how a cat is doing based on numbers. I found it most helpful to read the condos and then look at the spreadsheets and see if I could see what they were talking about the trends etc....

It has really helped me understand Skooter's cycle a lot better....
