Hello Sugar Moms and Dads. I am moving to Sunnyvale, CA and do not know anyone there. About a month after I move, I have to travel on business. How do you go about finding good care for your animals while you are away (outside of family or vet)? I really do not want to board Fin at a vet's office. Until now, I was lucky in that the woman that ran the shelter where I got Fin passed along a pet sitter who used to have a diabetic cat.

Any advice on how you have approached this or how others you know may have?

Greatly appreciated,

Barbi, Fin, Sea and MiAmor

There are some on the MB who have vet techs come to their house to care for their diabetic cats.
Maybe that would be a option.

I am sure someone will drop by with more information.

you could also post here to see if anyone is close enough to petsit. i can think of a couple long time members for instance who are in the san jose area, or were last i knew.

you could edit your first post to include "Sunnyvale" or "San Jose area" in the subject line. oh, you know, i want to say that one of the girls i'm thinking of in san jose is injured so not sure if she'd be an option actually. but there are others up that way

Get to know the vet techs at your new vet's place. Vet techs are an untapped gold mine I tell ya!

Most vet techs are not paid well so any money they can make to make ends meet is welcome.

The best thing about having one of the vet techs at your vet's office to take care of your fur kids is that they not only know how to properly take care of your furkids, they will also *know* if your furkid is sick or not and can take them into the vet's office while your away.

I was in the same predicament when I first moved to a new town. I got to know all of the vet techs at the North Bend Animal Clinic in North Bend, Wa. and just plain out asked all of them at the desk, "Do any of you pet sit?" and they all said, "Yes!!!". It is the greatest peace of mind when I travel to know that my cats are safe and cared for by humans who they know. And in fact after these past 9 years here, I know and trust the techs so well that they actually house sit when I'm gone (they like the air conditioning in the summer). So that is added security too.

Most importantly your kitty will be less stressed out at home thus keeping the glucose numbers down and that's a good thing. V

My vet was able to pass me a card for a pet sitter, but they couldn't help. My husband found our last petsitter on Google. She is a gem.
