Hi everyone,

Haven’t posted for a while. Been battling with different foods to get frank on to. We’ve found a suitable wet food that he likes to eat and is finally off the kibble. What do we do now re dosage etc? I’ve been home testing and his numbers have gone down so we really need to be looking at lowering the disengagement of insulin? Asked the vet they said to keep as it isn’t as hes “doing well” but after reading posts in here and on the group I’m gonna guessing we need to reduce it now. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance xx

Woo hoo! Congratulations. Have you put your testing results in a spreadsheet you can share? Everyone would need to see the testing results in order to be able to give any dosing advice.

You said his numbers 'have gone down' - have they gone down too low? Normally, you would only reduce the dose if that is happening.

I haven’t no. I have no clue with spreadsheets. He was between 500-600 before insulin and now he’s around 380-396. Is there a way I can track it on my phone at all?

The spreadsheet works best as everyone uses the same kind and easily see what’s going on as to color coded. Click on the link in anyone’s signature to see what the spreadsheet looks like.

I can’t rmemeber where to download the template but I’m sure the technical forum will have the link and how to do a signature with relevant info.

Once it have a spreadsheet saved in google drive anyone with the link can see it and you can edit it on your phone.

Lisa if you need help setting up the spreadsheet (like I did:oops:) just ask and we’ll get some help for you!

Thank you all so much. Will get on the case of this today. My husband is the spreadsheet king so this can be his job I think. So glad we got him off it‍♀️

Managed to get it on my phone with the google thing. What’s the next step? We work in the day but hole at weekends.

I work all day too and I have a two hour commute each day. What I do is test, feed and give insulin first thing (6am). Go to work. Come home and test feed and shoot again at 6pm (if you have things on in the evening - I think you mentioned you go to the gym? You really should go home and test and shoot then go back out again). Dosing works best if every 12 hours on Lantus. Then get a couple evening tests in if you can. I find this hard as I am up so early but folks here say a before bed test is good. Then on weekends run a curve - test every two hours over a 12 hour period. I do this in Saturday’s but I get a few more sour checks in in Sunday’s. Then you know if you need to increase or decrease dose based on the lowest reading (called nadir- often around 6hrs after dose). Which protocol are you going to follow? Thy are both listed as stickies on the Lantus forum. Keep posting so we know how kitty is going.

Oh and set up a signature - see others posts for ideas. Usually - what you’re feeding, date of diagnosis, insulin you’re using, protocol you’re following and a link to the spreadsheet. Signature set up is found by clicking in your name and selecting signature.

Have you discovered the Insulin Support Group for Caninsulin/Vetsulin N/ NPH? There is a nice Beginner's Guide to Caninsulin "sticky" at the top of that forum.
