if she hasn't gone in a few days I would give her the laxatone despite the potential impact to bgs. Then, I'd research other more diabetic friendly options.

Make sure she eats, has water and that you check for ketones as she is at risk for them.

Good luck!

You can give her 1/8 teaspoon of Miralax twice a day, for constipation. She will need extra water mixed in with her food. I just sprinkle the Miralax into the bowl, add the food, add the water, and mix them all up.

Hmmmmm... she was diagnosed as diabetic based on one stressed BG test? Ouch. Although we don't recommend a fructosamine test as a indication of regulation, it is an invaluable test to confirm whether or not a cat is really diabetic, or is just throwing high BGs from stress/infection/meds/pain, etc. Keeping her off insulin and monitoring the BGs for now-- with the diet change-- is a viable plan, unless those numbers start climbing again. Then start nice and low- maybe 0.5u twice a day, and go from there.

And please don't feel guilty. You didn't know about diet- and you love your Blaki, it's obvious. She knows it, too.

Deep breaths, and let us know how you are both doing.

I did drop her off by 9:00am and later the vet called me and told me that her sugar was 350 so that he wanted to postpone her surgery by a day and give her some insulin to bring it down, so she stayed at the vets and the next day he called me to tell me that he had given her four units of insulin and she had dropped into the 40 - 50 range, I can't remember the exact number. So anyways, to make a long story short, she ended up staying at the vets for three days and nights, she had some kind of urinary infection as well, and had her tail amputated. She has been through a whole lot recently, and I cant' help but wonder if the high bg tests at the vets were due to stress (being away from home) and the fact that she will not eat a bite of food the entire time she has to stay at the vets, the pain her tail had been causing her, and the urinary infection all at once.

So no fructosamine test, no urine test (for glucose) and no clinical signs of diabetes? The diagnosis was based solely on the blood glucose while injured, infected, at at the vets?

If getting a urine sample is possible, you might want to get the strips to test it for glucose (and ketones as well if you aren't already), they're available at any pharmacy.
