Yaaaaasssss!!! Finally~~ his appointment is scheduled for january 13th so he just has to stay good for two more weeks so they go through with it. They'll do before and after xrays i confirmed to make sure they got everything.
I do still have questions about the insulin that day. The receptionist i spoke to said to give him a half dose in the morning but his drop off is at 7am and his dose time is usually between 1030-11am so im not sure thats too early and i should just leave his insulin with them or prefill a syringe that morning. Im also going to ask for another libre that day because im hoping his levels will start to drop relatively quickly and it would be more helpful to keep an eye on. We are going back to liquid gabapentin tomorrow also because he will not touch food if the pills been stuck in it and i dont want to turn him off eating. He ate great today. A large can of tiki cat and some plain boiled chicken. And he hit a daytime blue which i havent seen since that one time i assumed a fluke so thats awesome. So just gotta continue positive vibes for two weeks and then for that morning as well :)

I know many give some insulin before a dental but my vet told me I shouldn’t. Since it’s too early for it I would just skip it. That’s great that you can finally get it done. I hope it helps bring down the BG.

I hope so too. I figure i'll call the day before to double check on the insulin or not. He'll be there from
7am to around 6pm they said so i dont want him to be without insulin for the whole day either. Im really hoping i see a drastic drop and maybe we can go to a much lower insulin dose

Maybe you can take your insulin there and have them give it to him? My vet had me bring Max in later than usual drop offs, got him done first, and had me pick him up early afternoon.

Thats nice! Yeah she told me he would be first so to drop him off at 7am and that they would keep him until they close at 6pm to make sure that he was fine after the anesthesia. And that they would give him a pain med injection as well as antibiotics again and send me home with additional pain meds to give after the shot wore off. Im going to be nervous the whole day

Great news about the dental appointment! Fingers and paws crossed for everything to go nice and steady beforehand, and for things to get better and easier for you both afterwards. :)

We all are nervous when our cats have dentals. I like that they are being extra cautious!:bighug: He will feel so much better with that dental behind him.

Hallelujah, I am so happy for you and OJ.
They appear that they are being very cautious.
I hope after this you will see his numbers come down.
It was great to see that blue today.
Glad he ate good today .
Will be praying he continues to do good the next two weeks and everything goes smooth.
He is such a cutie . Have a good night :bighug::bighug::cat:

Thanks all! I'll definitely keep everyone posted the day of his procedure. In the meantime i havent been around much because aside from still high numbers he's doing great. Running around, eating like a champ, still ketone free. He's definitely feeling like his old self and hopefully will continue to do even better after that bad tooth or two are gone

Thanks! I've been calling him patches with all his shaved spots lol (my dads been calling him pin cushion from all the pricks)

the spots on his legs are almost 2months old and they still look like they were freshly shaved. Im a little worried that his fur isnt growing back. But my hair grows really slow so maybe thats just the case for him

With unregulated diabetes, the body tends to prioritise what resources it can properly use for functions that are most important for sustaining life. Replacement of the hair coat is not top of that list, so hair regrowth slows/stops. This phenomenon can become more noticeable when a cat comes into regulation because when the body starts being able to use nutrients properly again sometimes they'll shed the old coat really quickly. This happened with Saoirse. If I as much as looked sideways at her the fur would drop - and she had never been a 'sheddy' cat. When the shedding started I didn't know what was behind it and at one stage I was genuinely worried that she was going to end up bald! It might be a similar situation with OJ.

There was another time when Saoirse had post-clipping alopecia. The regrowth was extremely slow and a bit patchy. The vet wasn't much help in this instance. As luck would have it, I started her on a B-complex supplement for her kidneys, and lo! her fur started growing back normally. Bonus!! I learned afterwards that a number of B vitamins are important for skin and hair coat. B vitamins are water soluble. Is OJ still peeing a lot? If yes, he might be losing B vitamins in the urine. Maybe it might be worth asking your vet whether a supplement might help him?

oh he definitely is. Im hoping that resolves after the tooth comes out as well. I actually have a ton of vitamin B that i had used to treat one of my dragons with renal failure. Worked wonders the first time around. When she got hit with it again later on in life it wasnt enough with her advanced age. I used to grind it and mix with water to syringe feed.

but that makes sense with the prioritizing what the body needs. Another one of my rescue dragons at one point hadnt gone to the bathroom in a month. I was concerned but she was so malnourished the vet said her body was using everything it was getting so there was no left over waste. So i guess its the same for them. Right now his body is doing whatever it can to keep the organs functioning properly and fur is probably bottom of the list especially being an inside cat and not needing the extra fur for warmth or anything

Lol so now OJ and i are in the same boat. I was just eating breakfast and one of my back molars on the same side as his just broke and half fell out. So i also have a dental appointment scheduled for myself now to fix it. And i hate the dentist as much as im sure he will

Yeeeeeep. I guess when i kept saying i wished i could take all his pain and give it to myself it finally happened. Going to the dentist in a few hours. Too bad he cant come with and see its no big deal, haha
