Feline Herpes Virus flare up?

My civvie, Skeeter, is about 2 1/2 and had Feline Herpes Virus when I adopted him. He's never had a serious flare up, only runny/watery eyes (clear, no discharge), a bit of a runny nose, and a little bit of sneezing. I give him Lysine every day, and it keeps the symptoms at bay for the most part. I was unable to tell if sometimes there were also allergies, so I would give him 1/4 or a 1/2 of a 4 mg. chlor-trimeton. He would only be midly sleepy from it, otherwise it seemed to help a little.

Yesterday, he started sneezing like crazy ... multiple times in a row. He also was breathing through his mouth for periods of time. I took him to the vet, and she said his chest sounded clear and it did seem to be the virus acting up. She gave me a bottle of eye drops for herpes eye issues (anti-viral), and told me I could try Little Noses (saline spray) for his congestion. I started the drops and the spray today, but he is really miserable. The chlor-trimeton puts him out, but it does seem to help. There is still no discharge from his nose or eyes (just clear). He's eating just like normal, using the kitty box, and sleeping ... not very playful.

Is there something else I can do to help him? I know when I'm sneezy and stuffed up, I'm not all that lively. I'm worried.

I wonder, are you giving the L-Lysine? I understand it makes a difference. I'm sorry I dont have any advice but this response will bump your thread up so it is easily seen and maybe get BETTER response than mine.
Sending prayers for Skeeter.
A long time ago I had a kitty named Skeeter. She was half wild and hard to catch as a mosquito.

My cat has flare ups every now and again, the lysene will help sometimes you have to just ride it out. My civvie had a flare up that lasted a little over a week this spring. The vet gave me an eye gel I can't recall what the name is but I think I still have it and can check this evening for you if you'd like. That helped his runny eye really well.

I used to take Abigail into the bathroom with me while I had a hot shower going to get some steam, it really seemed to help her.
I am still not sure if Abigail had herpes, but I do know for sure she has allergies which gives her the runny eyes all of the time and sneezes sometimes.

I do give him Lysine every day. The drops have cleared up his eyes a little, and the saline spray has helped the congestion a bit as well. His appetite is great, and he comes running at meal time (and last night when I boiled some chicken). He's breathing less through his mouth, much less, and sneezing less (and his sneezes are not so squeaky).

But, he just wants to sleep ... he isn't playing or kneading (which he does a lot normally). Is that normal for this virus? Or, a cold even?

I would say he is less active because he doesn't feel quite like himself...and that could be from any of the things you mentioned(herpes, cold, even allergies). It is good he still has an appetite, just wish he could breath better.

Thank you!

He is breathing much better, not through his mouth, and his eyes have cleared up a lot. He's still not as active as he was, but he seems to be on the mend. :)
