Is there such a thing as a feline endocrinologist? I have decided that the Internist handling Martha's case does not know much about DM. I had my questions first when he put her into CHF at the first of the year with excess fluids; then she was running high numbers (300s & 400s) for a year before she was diagnosed and put on insulin. Then when he prescribed 4 U of Lantus after only 3 weeks, I really started worrying. This is a Specialties clinic and the doctors are all board certified etc, etc, and supposed to be the best, especially in my state. I don't know what to do. This man is just like family and I don't want to hurt him. But if I could find an endocrinologist in South Carolina, I want to take Martha there.

Hosanna,
The answer to your question is yes, there is such a thing. I don't know if any are in SC though. Can you post this on Health? People will miss it here since they will assume you are asking a computer related question. One name that comes to mind is Dr. Mark Peterson who is a leading endocrinologist and has an online blog. Maybe if you contact him he could answer as to where you might find one?

Just curious, but why do you want to take your cat to a feline endocrinologist?
Does your cat have some out of the ordinary issues that you think need a specialist?

No, she does not have anything, DM-wise, out of the ordinary I don't think. She has been seeing specialists for over five years. I just would feel better if I had a vet that I could be working with on her diabetes. As it is, I don't have one I trust, and there are none locally-- I don't know many "vets" around here who are well-versed in diabetes.

I'm afraid there are not that many vets at all who are versed in what to DO about FDM in any case- using the instructions they give the poor owners that come on this site and start learning as the basis.

Yes, there are some that have been educated- mainly by members and they are better. Plus, I think with FD becoming such a larger problem they are teaching more about it in the vetty schools and CE's but who knows what kind of information they are getting.
