Kazi has always ate out of a plastic bowl before she was dx with diabetes and put on wet food. Since then she always ate off a paper plate so that I could toss the plate afterwards. I bought a timed feeder a couple of months ago...and now it looks like we have kitty acne on her chin. I was a little worried until I thought of it and googled it...looks like a mild form of many of the pics shown.

I haven't run across any other options in my google searches for a timed feeder that is anything but plastic. Any of you ever heard of anything like that? I am going to really step up the sanitizing of her tray from here on out...but nixing the plastic completely seems to be the suggestion from what I have found.

Amanda, I think someone else had this issue and ended up finding some metal dishes that would fit into the trays. Still the possibility her chin will rub against the side, but if I remember right, it did help them.

Would cleaning the chin help? Cats can't clean under thier chins so bacteria and dirt builds up and may cause acne. You can use a pet cleaning wipe or gentle soap and water. I've used witch hazel which dries out the acne.

Maybe you can line the feeder tray with a paper plate cut to fit?

Maybe get and try some heavy duty aluminum foil (less easy to move) and wrap the areas which could come in contact with her chin.

Does she gobble up too much at a time?

I just leave food available 24 hours to my cats. They have always been grazers snacking whenever they want.

We don't have a problem leaving the canned food out all the time. Since hubby and i both have allergies - the windows stay closed and air conditioning on -- so never gets too hot and no flies.

Take the timed feeder insert and go shopping for small glass bowls that fit into the compartments.
That's what I did for our 5 section feeder.

I don't know why it never occurred to me to get dishes to place in each compartment. I went shopping today and ended up coming home with small heart shaped ceramic 'bowls' if you could call them that. They actually fit pretty nicely so as long as she doesn't object to it I think they'll work well. If not the aluminum foil is a great alternative to try.

Thanks for your help everyone!
