Feeling sad: highest BG reading at home (NOT an emergency!)

Hi all,

Not an emergency — just feeling sad that I got Cheech’s highest reading today. I did have to prick her 3x but doubtful the stress raised her that much. Second guessing if anything was off today 😔

I tried reading Cheech's SS but I need access, it's ok to vent we are here too for that, I am sure is nothing,, has there been any changes in Cheech's surrounding today? different food? people, strange noises?

I started BG testing this week — so far only pre-PM shots but trying my best to get there for pre-AM shots as well.
We just upped her to 1.5u Lantus per her vet yesterday.

Need to test before each shot especially now that you increased the dose, also please test again at +2 that’s when the insulin kicks in, so there may be no surprises, you might find yourself tomorrow with numbers bouncing, up and down BG numbers so it’s time to practice testing😉 did he eat yet? The food will increase the BG again, so prepare for a possible dive with a higher dose, I tagged a couple of members to plug in , also test at +4 as well , it will take a couple cycles for the new dose to fully work in the system as well

But she loves you, and she knows what you are doing is cause you love her, try a low carb treat for the after testing, she will associate, testing to Treat yeeee!
I tried a few times and could not get a reading — I will report back when I can!!

259 6 hours post pm shot; updated on spreadsheet too
Much better, is Cheech having any different patterns in the litter box? Is he constipated? Going to the box and roaming around it. If you just started insulin them there’s nothing wrong Lantus is a Depot insulin it takes about 5-7 days for the insulin to begging working in the system

Well, I don't think there can be anything physically wrong with Cheech, is just that the Depot has not reached its full potential just yest, remember it will take 5-7 days from the first shot for the Lantus will allow you to see better BG numbers.

I hope! She started Lantus April 3 but we upped her dose April 10!!

She likes to scare me!!
Our cats love to have our complete attention, remember these words please “take a step back, breath ins and breath out, cats a very sensitive to stress, you stress they stress”,
The dose change is like starting all over from the start, you should always keep the same dose at least 3 cycles (3 days) then you will start to see some progress, the dose is never increase or decreased according to the BG
If you are home during the day 3-4 additional test is recommended , this way we all can see the progress of the dose during a cycle (12 hours)

Yes, our vet wants us to wait 5-7 days and then we will do a curve!
please do the curve at home, the biggest stressor for cats are vet visit, all day, in a cage, save your money do it at home if you can, a curve is simply testing every 2-3 hours for a cycle (12hours) at the vets office due to stress the glucose levels will be unrealistic, causing an unnecessary dose increase

Yes, absolutely a curve at home! Waiting the 5-7 days for her Lantus dose increase to kick in!
I just thought about something, how old is the opened insulin vial? is it refrigerated? has it lost temperature? look at the vial's fluid, is it too cloudy, crystalized? more than 3 months old?
this an also can reflect on higher levels, I am just putting things out there
